Great product that made a big job so much easier!
We bought this because we are building partial walls out of cut bottles. And boy-oh-boy did we need to find an easier way! This little unit works exactly as advertised. Keep in mind that it WILL NOT cut the bottle all the way thruโฆ itโs not supposed to and that expectation is totally unrealistic. It simply scores the glass. We have cut everything from wine bottles to beer bottles to Jarrito bottles and everything in between. If the glass is smooth and not ribbed, itโs going to work. While itโs easy to useโฆ you have to follow the instructions and be patient with the process. Any failures is not the fault of the unit itself, itโs simply the luck of the draw. Not every bottle is going to cut perfectly. There are a lot of variablesโฆ. Including the thickness of the bottle. We had been cutting bottle after bottle all day with a lot of success and then tried a Bud Platinum bottle (for that beautiful blue glass) and it shattered almost immediately. It was MUCH thinner than the others and our usual amount of pressure was too much. So we adjusted our technique for different types and have now had great success with the Bud, as well. TECHNIQUE FOR SUCCESS: We found that getting the label and all of the adhesive off first is crucial. You donโt want to dull the blade or have the blade press the adhesive into the exact spot you expect to cut cleanly. Soak the bottles in soapy water, the labels will slide right off. Then we sprayed a Dawn/rubbing alcohol/water spray and used a wire brush or other scrubber, steel wool, etc to get that adhesive. SOAKING in soapy water was way more effective (and cheaper) than Goo-b-gone and all that other stuff. Now youโre ready to use the cutter. Be firm but not crazy. Donโt monkey the heck out of it. Pay attention to where you start the scoring line so you can join it perfectly. DO NOT go around and aroundโฆ one time only. It wonโt look like much but it is enough. Once scored, we would spin the bottle in a pot of VERY HOT BUT NOT BOILING water, heat it up, pull it out, set the bottle sideways in a frying pan with the neck raised on the edge of the pan and slowly spin it while holding an ice cube on the score mark. Repeat as needed: Heat, ice, heat, ice. Sometimes it releases immediately and sometimes it takes a few rotations. But it works. We have been able to cut over 100 bottles so far and have not even changed the blade yet. Well worth the money! The design is simple and effective. Itโs tedious work but this unit helps SO MUCH! Thank you!

Nice little glass grinder
I received this as a gift with other stained glass supplies. I have used it a lot and it has done a good job. Iโve not had any problems with it and it grinds glass pieces quickly and easily. Cleaning it is very simple as well. I hope to get years of use out of it. The size is great for my small work area. It seems to be a reasonable cost and has held up well so far.

Amazing for round bottles only
Great for round bottles only. Works amazing on round bottles. This does not cut mason jar shape very well at all wish it stated that a little clearer. Thereโs some diamond drill tip in there but no idea how to use it. Thereโs no instructions on it.

This takes a little practice and then it works like a charm!
I was unsure of success as I have cut sheet glass a million times in a rig, but itโs entirely different by hand with a glass cutter and a straight edge. This was really doable! The first go I didnโt have enough pressure for the first 1/4โ and then knew better than to go back over it, so there was a little bump when it separated. Easy enough after the trial run, and itโs really interesting to see the score line get more and more through the bottle as I did the ice water/ hot water process. It took a little bit longer than instant lol. Itโs some back and forth between temperatures, but after the first go itโs easy to see the process happening and what it needs. Itโs maybe two minutes of the temperature changes and then it gently just separates. Really interesting to see! Just take your time and pay attention and do some practice, and then this works like a charm!

Decent, but loud and messy
Overall, this is a pretty good budget glass grinder. A million times faster than doing it by hand, but also pretty slow. Grinding is a pretty slow process with this. Also, the machine is pretty loud during use. It's fine if you're only doing a couple small pieces at a time, but using it for more than 10 minutes, you'll want to wear noise cancelling headphones or some sort of hearing protection to take the edge off and avoid ringing in your ears after. Also, this thing makes a mess! Not sure if that's par for the course with grinders, but I end up with water spots all over the place. The guard on the back does a good job of keeping water from going back though. The other issue I have is overheating. After an hour or two of use, it starts to smell like burning, and makes a horrible noise. However, that's about as long as I want to go for at a time, so it's fine.

Good for beginners, but not enough on its own
I bought this to cut wine bottles into drinking glasses. It scores bottles consistently and is easy to use, especially for standard wine bottles. That said, the cut edge is very sharp and still requires grinding and sanding if you want a drink-safe rim. This works well as a first step, but itโs not a complete solution by itself. If youโre planning to make usable glasses, pair this with a glass grinder and wet sanding.

Poor quality and bad alignment make this unusable
I never like to leave negative reviews, but I decided to write this because Xmas is coming soon and I would hate for someone to buy this as a gift only to have the recipient be disappointed. I am an avid crafter and I was really excited to try out this bottle cutter! When I received the product and opened the box it comes in, however, I immediately noticed that it was poorly made and that some key parts were crooked. Cutting glass cleanly requires accuracy, especially when cutting round glass bottles. The rollers on the product I received are crooked, and more importantly the cutter head itself is not mounted squarely. I decided to try it out just to be sure my eyes werenโt playing tricks on me. I followed the instructions and ended up with a crazy, jagged score line that wasnโt even close to straight. Total bummer! Maybe if the pieces I mentioned could be adjusted/calibrated by the user then I could have adjusted it myself? Unfortunately they are firmly attached so Iโm basically stuck with a useless product. I didnโt bother to return it because I do like the gloves and the handheld cutter it comes with, and I didnโt want to wait only to get another wonky, defective item.

Great little grinder for beginners
Love this small grinder for traveling in the winter in the Rv. Great for the beginner that doesnโt want to spend a lot of money upfront. I buy these for my classes when I teach and recommend them to new students just starting out. Quality & sturdiness is top notch. Easy to use & clean.
