Deluxe Chomp and Clack Alligator Wooden Push Toy and Activity Walker

Among my mom's group I'd say this walker and the Vtech sit to stand walker are the most popular. I decided to buy this one for my daughter's first Bday. She was just starting to cruise at this time. I decided on this over the Vtech because it felt much more sturdy and my daughter could push this along slowly without it slipping out from under her. The vtech is much lighter so when she'd stand behind it, it would move so fast that she would slip and tumble. Well it turns out my brother bought her the vtech for her Bday. I am glad that I kept both because she loves them both, still uses them both a lot and they are better suited for different situations. I'll focus on the Alligator push toy now It is GREAT for smooth floors, hardwood, tile and sidewalk because it is SO sturdy. It's perfect for a child who is just beginning to cruise and is still not very stable. Because it's on the heavier side, hey could lean on it without it speeding away, which would cause them to fall. Not the best for thick carpet. Now that my daughter can walk well she can push it around in rooms where we have a thicker carpet, but most people buy these when a child is just starting to walk and if you have mostly carpet in your house it probably won't be very easy for your child to push it around. My husband was concerned that my daughter would pinch her fingers in the mouth of the alligator, she never has but her little friend did. She was holding on to the alligators mouth and then leaned on it. I didn't think it was too big of a deal, it hurt i guess but she was fine. It wouldn't stop me from buying it. The only thing I'm bummed about was that all the other M&D alligator push toys I've seen are very vibrant in color, the blue part of mine looks like they only did one coat of paint and left it.

My 8 month old stood up for the first time in early December so I ordered this for Christmas. I thought it would be a couple more months before she was ready for it, but she was immediately delighted with this toy. The first time we stood her up in front of it, she grabbed the orange handle and got super excited. It doesn't roll too quickly for her but we do need to stick close by since she's not even really cruising along furniture yet on her own. It is a well-made wooden toy with bright gender-neutral colors. I had to attach the handle but it was a simple assembly and took only a few minutes. Update: We've had this for a month and a half now and my daughter is 10 months and walking cautiously. She still loves this walker and will push it from one of the house to the other if we point it in the right direction for her. She can control the speed and doesn't fall down when she's using it. It seems sturdy and looks great. We still love it and I think having it really helped her confidence with learning to walk. Update #2: I eventually hid this toy from my toddler. She loves it but after she became a more confident walker, she would push this thing around at lightening speed and the chomping noise from the alligators mouth drove me nuts. So loud! In conclusion, this is a great toy for a very early walker/cruiser, but get rid of it as soon as they learn how to run if you value your sanity.

Bottomline: My child is 11 months, about 30-31 inches tall. This is the perfect height and should grow with him nicely. Colors are great. Love that it's wood, has no plastic. Incredibly cute in person! Highly recommend. Tip: wipe it down once or twice with a baby wipe so no color transfers to hands or carpet. Takes about 3 mins. Detailed review: This is so cute, get it! I'm so glad I found this. I've been looking for a push walker for my son for a few days, but all of the ones I have found seem too busy, too stimulating, have too much assembly, or just seem like something my son wouldn't enjoy. But this is perfect! It's all wood with rubber on the wheels for a smoother ride. The colors are great and vibrant without being over stimulating...even if they are Florida colors (Roll Tide). It does have some slight imperfections, such as some spots where the blue rubbed off on the handle in the box, a place where the wood chipped and some rough spots. The blue wipes off the handle very easily so that looks great and the spot where it wore off isn't too bad. The rough spots can be smoothed out with sandpaper if you really want to, but that might mess up the paint. I'll probably only smooth out the chipped area to prevent splinters or cover it with some kind of clear coating. The rough spots are just natural wood and add some texture so I'm not bothered by it at all. I do recommend wiping it all down with a baby wipe (takes about 3 mins, if even that long) as some of the paint, especially the blue, rubs off with initial contact, but wiping it down does the trick. After I wiped it, we used it on our light colored carpet without any paint transferring, but maybe test it a little before your child pushes it all over. This works well on carpet and should work great on hard floors or concrete. My child is 11 months and figuring out how to walk. Right now he stands and scoots while holding onto things rather than taking actual steps. He's immediately very interested in this, though it will take some practice for him to use it right, but I think this will work very well. He's enjoying standing with it, touching it, and playing with the bug beads on the handle. Gift idea: if you want to give this as a gift to someone, I'd take it out of the box and check it out first, maybe go ahead and wipe it down. But this would make a beautiful shower gift. Open it up, attach the handle and add a bow.

I bought this for my niece's first birthday based on the reviews and she loves it! She has had other walkers before but this one is sturdy and she takes it everywhere.

I got this for my nephew's first birthday. He was able to stand and take a few wobbly steps at the time, but was a bit skid-dish about taking to many steps without support, so I thought this would be a big help. I was pretty impressed from the get go.The toy came in great condition, the only assembly required was attaching the handle to the rest of the toy. My husband opened and put the toy together in about 5 minutes. The handle part stands straight up, no bending so provides good support for the toddler; handle bar was screwed in place. The wheels also have a bit of rubber on them to prevent the toy from sliding and getting away from the toddler and sending them tumbling face first. Looked absolutely adorable, and didnt take a whole lot of force (or coordination lol) to push the toy and make the alligators chomp. When the moment of truth came my nephew took right to it. It was the perfect height and after a few slow steps he was off giggling all the way at the noisy toy (can get loud with some speed, but that's part of the fun!). It was on hardwood floor so it was easier to push, but even then my nephew never lost control of it. The only thing I would recommend is shoes for the toddler pushing the toy. My nephew would put it in reverse to back out of a corner and nearly ran over his toes. Overall great toy, easily one of his favorites from his party. Our 11 month old daughter absolutely LOVES this little push toy! We have only had it for about two weeks, but she has gained so much confidence in her ability to walk in such a short time, I wish we had thought to buy it for her sooner. She is now trying to take steps between furniture rather than resorting to crawling right away! We are members of the Denver Zoo so we take our daughter there 2-3 times a week, and she loves walking around with this little walker and looking at the animals. (See attached video). This walker is very stable, so she is able to pull herself up to standing with it. She uses the handlebar to catch herself when she stumbles and falls and it does not tip over unless she is very off balance, however, we are always right there to catch her in such cases; you can see it coming so there is time to react. The wheels don't run away from her as she's walking unless she is on a steeper incline, and she must control the speed of the walker herself (there is not a break or slowing mechanism to keep her from gaining too much speed, she must control this herself). She must use her core strength to do this and it has improved her balance exponentially. This walker has a very low clearance, which makes it stable, but you will still need to clear small rocks out of the way or pick up the toy when your child gets hung up on a rock. The wheels and all other parts of the toy easily wipe clean, and the little black strip on the wheels is raised rubber which gives the wheels grip and is not hard on floors, so we also use this in our home. I have not noticed that it is loud, as other reviewers have, as there is a green felt strip in each alligator mouth which reduces the noise. To me, it sounds like a wagon being pulled outside. The zoo staff also inspected it before we were allowed to bring it in because if it were too noisy it could scare the animals and would thus not be allowed in. We have gotten many compliments from other parents about what a great little walker this is, and every time we go to the zoo we get asked multiple times where we got it. The only negative factor, which may have been caused by user error, is that I have noticed the paint on the handle bar rubs off onto hands (both mine and baby's). This didn't start happening until we used it at the zoo for the first time, so it may have been caused by sunscreen, which I apply liberally to my daughter including her hands. I also used baby wipes to clean the dirt off of the handle bar, as my daughter sits down to inspect leaves and other small things she finds while she is pushing this toy, so it may have been caused by that as well. This issue is not worth taking a star off though, I will take a little child-safe paint rubbing off over a smashed chin on the pavement any day! The paint washes off of our hands easily. That said, I still don't like that the handlebar paint rubs off, so I plan to resolve this issue by sanding the paint off of the handle. I will update this review of whether or not that is successful.

Our son's experience with this toy has been exceptional. First it has accelerated his ambitions to walk. He is 11 months old now and before the toy was doing his share of cruising but nothing like what this toy has allowed him to do. He runs back and forth across the house with a huge smile on his face and loving that he can now walk with a little assistance. Next, I was a bit worried at first about the handle for the toy being straight up and down, but come to find out this makes it much easier for him to walk with it. If it would have the angled handle like most other toys it would consistently want to push out from underneath him as he walked. The straight handle allows him to decide when to push it or not. Last and most important to me, is the noise. It is loud enough to get his attention and make him want to continue pushing it, but not loud enough to be a "that" annoying toy. There is no high pitch squealing or sirens... just wood hitting against itself and it is very tolerable. Last and not least, NO BATTERIES! So far this has been his favorite and most used toy. It brings happiness to both him and us as parents, if you have the chance this toy is well worth the price for the smile on your child's face.

I was a bit hesitant to purchase this walker after reading some of the bad reviews here at Amazon. I have never had problems with Melissa and Doug toys, and honestly I could not get myself to get one of the cheap plastic walkers so I took the risk. We love this walker and so does our baby. I like that the handlebar and wheels are vertical from each other so she is not kicking the wheels like her cousin does with his cheap plastic walker (a convertible walker/car type). She plays a lot also with the spinning bugs on the handlebar rail. This walker is also NOT hard to put together. My husband said "you would have to be EXTREMELY un-mechanically inclined" to have issues putting it together. We put it together in no time. We have carpet and lineoleum and it glides fine on both. A bit of a push on the carpet but not too fast on the lineoleum. Great sturdy toy for the price. And as far as the noise of the alligators... It's fine with baby pushing it. When her four year old cousin comes he races around the house with it and it is GRATING. If you have an older child too and noise bothers you, this may not be for you. We may add some extra felt to the alligators mouths (comes with some there already) as our baby gets older if it becomes an issue for us. I can see baby using this as a pushcar for baby dolls as she gets older. We would reccomend this without hesitation.

I really loved this Melissa & Doug push toy. Bought to help my child lift himself up and move around confidently as his previous push toy (in plastic) was rather wobbly and my son didn't feel comfortable using to help himself stand up. It's really solid and nicely decorated and even now that my son can walk properly he still enjoys playing with it. If you are thinking of buying a steady and secure push toy this is the one for you

Love the design and smooth pushing. My 11 month old is able to push this on the lawn, the carpet, the sidewalk, and smooth floors. We take it out for walks outside, the mall, wherever!
