Exhaustive overview of all cheeses!
The book is beautifully illustrated overview of all types of cheese. It has content in English and French and reasonably priced. I love it!

Great cheese maps and pairing suggestions
Too much emphasis on US cheeses. The US is not a major specialty cheese producing country. Therefore, because of space limitations, lots of more important cheeses from around the world have been left out.

Excellent compendium with one significant shortcoming
This book is fun reading and certainly has lots of options for selections. I especially enjoy the introduction and the special features in the various country cheese sections. My only complaint is with the Mexican cheeses. Jim Davies is the contributor for Mexico and areas of Central and South America along with some European countries. Mexico, with its 126 million inhabitants eclipses most of the European countries in size. He lists three Mexican cheeses: Quesos anejo (aged), blanco (white), and fresco (fresh). That is kinda like saying that US cheeses include white, yellow, American and Velveeta. There is a rich tradition and history that has included local interpretations of Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and other cheeses from additional locations. What about cotija? Oaxaca? Panela? Crema? Chihuahua/Menonita? Requeson? Manchego? Asadero? and a number more? Those of us in the Southwest and west coast find these cheeses enjoyable in eating plain, cooking, and with other foods. It is a shame that Mr. Davies gives such short shrift to Mexico and Latin America. I hope the next edition expands American cheeses that aren't Canadian or US.

Shipping Co. Unreliable. Seller & book excellent
This DK book is excellent as DK books usually are. Highly recommend. It is organized by the country of origin of cheese types, but gives a lot of supplementary information, all with DK's visually outstanding layout. The shipping Co., UPS Mail Innovations, did not tell the truth, claiming they had attempted a delivery that was obviously not accurate & demanding that I drive 60 miles to pick up the book! Note, this review is not about UPS itself, which has always been excellent. The seller has been excellent. The book, bought used, was in beautiful condition at an excellent price. When I had trouble with the shipper inaccuracies about delivery, twice, the seller promptly & courteously got the problem taken care of.
