Bait Feeder for fishing with kids
I fish with the Okuma ABF-30b because it saved my sons life. I fish with my kids all the time. And when I fish with my kids I use the bait feeder function on these reels. If a fish hits and pulls line I hear the clicking. That means I can put the rod in a rod holder and watch my kids. Last year my two year old son tried splashing in the water, but the place he stomped was over his head. I saw it all happen because my rod has an Avenger bait feeder reel on it. I scooped him out immediately. If I had been fishing normally I am sure he would have drowned in the creek. I have at least 4 Okuma Avenger ABF-30bs (plus two other Okuma bait feeder reels). They are not the smoothest reels I have ever used, but they are a good deal for $50. I use the bait feed function all the time and it works well. I the bait feed when fishing bottom rigs on the Mississippi river and for lake trout in the BWCA. Also a nice feature if you want to slip bobber but need to take a break in the bushes. And again, any time you need to pay more attention to kids than a rod, you should have a bait feeder reel on it! About 1% of the time the bait feed doesn't engage and I need to flip the lever again. But, there isn't a comparable reel for less than $150. Also, I fish a lot. Usually a couple nights per week. I haven't worn one out yet. I pair them with rods from 6'6" up to 9'. They have caught large lake trout, big redhorse, buffalo, carp and even bass, walleye and pike.

On previous Fishing Trips
The Okuma reel should be ok for what we bought them for .Have had Okuma reels before and also have 2 or 3 at home as well. use them for Shnappar , Flathead and the two we just bought should be spot on for Whitting .Robert

Would have preferred the new version price changes annoying (amazon)
It is what it is and is still really good. I lost a Diawa crossfire ands a old Okuma reel in the dark. This reel was a replacement and I was pleasantly surprised. Balances perfectly on my ugly and can be used on canal as a ledger reel.... to sum it up a good little allrounder

Great reels value for money
Bought 2 of these reels their a perfect size for light line,I did have to oil the reels they felt a little dry and one of the reels have a lightly stiff line feeder but the oil seemed to help. I've used the size ABF20 for years and their still going strong hopping these will be the same
