How do you take off to use on a regular toilet?

To remove the potty ring, make sure the lid is open and snap off the ring at the hinges.

Once you remove the seat to use on the adult toilet can it still be used as a step stool?

Yes it can. The seat is separate from the lid, and the closed lid is stable and strong enough to support a child.

Does this leak for girls?

We did have trouble with leaking on the toilet and occasionally as the floor potty. We have an elongated toilet set and it did not fit well.
