The Rii X8 Mini Keyboard has been a fantastic addition to my HTPC. It’s compact, lightweight, and incredibly convenient for navigating from the couch. The wireless connection is stable with no lag, and the built‑in touchpad makes it easy to control everything without needing a separate mouse. The RGB backlighting is great for nighttime use, and the keys feel responsive despite the small size. The rechargeable battery lasts a long time, which is perfect for a living‑room setup where I don’t want to constantly plug things in. For controlling an HTPC, this little keyboard does exactly what I need — simple, reliable, and comfortable to use. A great buy.

Out of all the things I got my wife for Christmas, this is the only item she repeatedly says was such a good gift. My biggest complaint with it, however, is that it seems to turn itself off after some smaller number of minutes of inactivity such that the trackpad doesn't respond. You can hit a key like the spacebar on it to turn it on again, but the timeout is low enough that it's kind of annoying and overly aggressive for conserving the battery. I don't see evidence the timeout can be changed. We've had it for like half a year, use it daily, and I don't know if we've ever charged it once since we first charged it up on Christmas day. Bonus points that it uses a standard, replaceable battery too.

This keyboard works 100% straight out of the box, the trackpad works and the scroll wheel works on my Google Tv menu and in apps, someone tried this on a Samsung gaming monitor with smart tv, and the touchpad and scroll wheel didn't work, so keep this in mind as far as compatible brands and tv types go. The keys are quite responsive, though it's smaller than I thought, even watching videos and images, looks slightly bigger, but until you get it yourself, it is small, but very usable, when using the touchpad, the mouse pointer moves from one side to the other about 25% of the screen if you move slow, if you move your finger on the touchpad fast, it will move about 75% of the way, so at times you will need to slide a few times but this is no big deal, if anything it's a good thing, not being too sensitive, thinking where did the pointer go, the mouse pointer stays on screen for about 10 or so seconds before it disappears, so that's good when watching tv or movies. So confirmed, this works perfectly on my 58" CHIQ 4K QLED w/GOOGLE TV (U58QG7L model), looking over Amazon, they seem to work on several other tv brands, but I cannot confirm these, but should be fine, check reviews for your brand or tv type to see if anyone has listed it.

I have been using these for a while now. About a year. I went to exchange the one that wasn’t working when it started to work again. But I had already requested a replacement. I kept both and had to pay for the second one and that’s fine. So the devices are great, but they are weird. They will work perfectly for a long time and then one will stop working for about 3 days. Then I swap to the other one during that time. I think it may be a moisture issue. If you look at the touchpad on both, the circuit board is slightly exposed on the right side. What I believe is happening is moisture is getting in and temporarily shorting it out, but once it is dry, it works perfectly again. It stays charged for a long time and doesn’t take long to charge. 1 night of charge gets me about a month of use. I haven’t had to swap to the other one in about 6-8 months now. I love these devices, but because of the issue that I mentioned, it is impossible to give it five stars. If they can fix that issue on the next iteration of this keyboard, I will easily give it five stars. It’s not laggy, all of the buttons feel great, I can type fairly quick with it. Everything else about this handheld keyboard is perfect. It has its own FN key and those functions are really helpful. Oh no, my app froze. I need to open the task manager. Easy. Hold FN then press Enter. If you choose to get one of these, you won’t be disappointed. But if you run into the issue that I have, I suggest just having one as a backup. Both of mine will do this, but like I said, it’s been almost 8 months since the last time I had this issue. Get it. Old review: Today is day 9 of owning this device. I owned one of the older models of the Rii and it was an absolutely fantastic device. I bought this one as a replacement and it worked like a charm at first. Now the right half of the touchpad doesn’t work. You can actually look down into the right side of the touchpad and see the pcb and gridded pcb pads that look like they should have been under the touchpad. Even the left side isn’t working great now though. Its spotty to use until I figure out how to get a replacement. I really wanted to love this device because it was fantastic at first. But I can’t even get 2 weeks before the product stops functioning properly? I hope this one is just a lemon and that the next one works better, but seeing that I can now no longer use it. 1 star.
