Does this gelee flake after a few days?

Nope not at all! I use this over my kinky curl knot today leave in and it never flakes. Heck I even used it with just water and it worked

Do the instructions on the jar say to rinse out, or can it be used as a leave-in?

I'll leave the instructions below for your review: On clean, damp hair, apply a generous amount all over hair, making sure hair is coated from roots to ends. As an intensive repair treatment, cover hair with a plastic cap and sit under a warm hooded dryer for 10 minutes. Remove cap and rinse all traces of masque from hair. As a regular rinse-out conditioning treatment, leave on for 5 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly. Towel blot hair and style as usual. Hope this answers your inquiry. How do you maintain/moisturize after day one?

Personally, I wet my hands then grab the gel with my fingertips. Then I rub my hands together to dilute the gel and spread it evenly on my hair. I repeat a few more times until all my hair is moist. I like to finish with a spritz of a hair oil for added moisture and healthy look once the hair dries.
