Q: Is it safe to eat food grown in these? What kind of plastic is this?

Q: What do you use as a dome? Is there one that you bought separately that fits this tray?

I always use a dome and get better result I buy the domes at B&T Grower Supply they are very durable and strong and fit perfectly...I am counting the days til I start my seeds this years!!

Q: are these made of hard plastic? they are not the cheap 2.oo ones at the stores?

They seem a LITTLE tougher than the store ones, or at least some of them. But I would not count on using them for more than a couple of seasons. Pat of the issue is that plastic breaks down in sunlight. Well if you raise plants in them ..unless you sre doing mushrooms, there is light.

Q: What is the depth of the tray?

2.25" to the support ribs with another .25" for drainage of excess water.
