How does this compare to my husbands Lidocaine 5% by perscription?

I found that the lidocaine patch works much better for lower back pain and they are larger so cover more area. They don't stick as well so best to use while laying down. I find the Salonpas to burn a bit and they are so tiny, I needed 3 to cover a similar area as 5% lidocaine.

Why does it say not to use after 14 days open, is it just less helpful? or is it actually harmful after?

It is to ensure maximum effectiveness. Salonpas has a "frequently asked questions" section on their website where I found this information. There is no harm using them after 14 days.

are these patches good for relieving knee joint stiffness only. I have no pain but just lots of stiffness in both my knees

From time to time my lower back has a little pain/discomfort and probably some stiffness from an old injury. When I use the patch, I have no more discomfort. Just try it, it is not expensive.

What pain med.is in the Salon spas patch

I don't know what the exact meds are. But I use them on my shoulder & elbow joints to keep them warm & supple. I don't think there is anything 'harmful' in them. I have been bodybuilding steadily since 1959 (I'm 73 yrs old. & a Mr. NJ winner). Keeping joints pain free is important, obviously, and these are helpful in that regard!
