What is the difference between the mkii 100 and the katana artist 100?

The artist has a better speaker; the rest is like the mk i. The mk ii has 5 additional variations of the original 5 amp sounds for the katana (acoustic, clean, crunch, lead, and brown). A huge additional plus of the Mk ii is that you can control all 5 effects settings (booster, modulation, Fx, delay, reverb) independently. On the mk i and artist,  there is one knob for booster/mod and one for fx/delay. You have to move the knob through the first effect past noon to get to the second effect—pretty impractical and a pretty significant design flaw in my opinion. You’ll blow your ears out maxing out the boost before you can get to a little modulation. The mkii has concentric knobs for these effects which is great. Mk ii sounds great, updates, and cheaper than the artist.

why does everyone suggest this amp? Is there a known competitor tothis ? And how would be fair up with a fender delux reverb ?

I exchanged a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for the Katana 50 Mk.2. It's compact, inexpensive, much lighter, and more flexible. It has 10 onboard amp models, and several onboard delays and reverbs, so you can build up thicker and more dimensional sounds, and then store those to presets. (Only 4 presets, though.) You can also use Boss' Tone Studio software to download more "Sneaky Amps" models, delays, reverbs, and effects to the amp. But having to connect to desktop/laptop software to program the amp is a nuisance. If you want a lightweight amp with Fender-like tones and all controls onboard, consider a Fender Mustang GTX 100 or a Blackstar ID:Core Stereo 100.

Does the foot pedal work like a pedal board? where we can select 1, 2 or more effects in any combination?

Charles, I hope this doesn't confuse you as it is a little tricky. You setup "Livesets" on your computer using their studio software. You can have up to 8 voices in a set which coincides with the foot pedals 8 choices. You can setup quite a few Livesets...not sure what the limit is. Using the software, you mix and match any boss voice that you like, name and save it. It becomes part of a Liveset that you can then download. So, the answer to your question is yes you can use 1, 2 or more effects but they are preset and are downloaded to a single button on the footswitch. Hope that helps. Ray

Will it sit ok on top of a 1x12 cab or is it too big?

Mine is sitting on a 2x12 , I think a 1x12 it would be ok.
