For me, this is the perfect butter dish. Most importantly, the lid has a real handle that you can easily get your fingertips under, without the lid slipping out of your grasp if your fingers are buttery— which is so often the case when you’re dealing with butter dishes. Also, it’s a nice size— not too big— and it has an attractive vaguely retro design, and it has a little ledge you can rest the butter knife on. It’s easy to clean, and is available in several colours (I’m partial to the zingy turquoise that they call “teal”). I’ve tried a lot of different styles of butter dishes, and for me, this one is the ideal butter dish.

After living on margarine for years, I decided to add a little butter to our lives. This butter dish is perfect! It looks sweet in the center of our table. I keep one stick of butter in it and it is always ready to spread.

I bought the turquoise porcelain butter dish. Very attractive exactly the color I wanted and it fits one whole stick of butter however I find it is very heavy, and I have to be very careful when setting it on my granite countertops or on my glass shelves in the refrigerator. The weight is why I only gave it four stars.
