The SKILSAW SPT70WM-01 SAWSQUATCH is not a circular saw so much as a controlled demolition device disguised as a tool.This thing has absurd power. The 15-amp motor paired with the worm drive torque goes through thick lumber like physics briefly stopped applying. Full depth cuts, wet framing, stacked material, awkward angles — it doesn’t slow down, complain, or pretend this emphasizes “user technique.” You point it. It obeys.Despite the size and capability, the magnesium construction keeps the weight shockingly reasonable. It’s heavy enough to feel planted and confident, but not punishing to use all day. Balance is excellent, visibility is clear, and the cut line feels honest — no wandering, no drama, no surprises.The depth and bevel adjustments are solid and confidence-inspiring, not the flimsy afterthoughts found on cheaper saws. This is a tool clearly designed by people who expect it to be used hard, repeatedly, and without sympathy.Is it overkill for weekend plywood trimming? Absolutely. Is it perfect for anyone who cuts serious lumber and wants a saw that simply dominates every task? Also absolutely.If you buy this saw, you won’t think about upgrading again. I don't often leave reviews but this tool certainly warrants one. I have used a number of circular saws and frame saws over the last three decades and have known both quality tools, and those that are not. Point being, this is not my first day on the job.On the side, I do a fair amount of woodworking projects. Some of this includes working with wood slabs ranging from 2 to 3" thick. I needed a heavier duty saw, and one capable of deeper cuts for this work and bought this one for that purpose.Having said all that, this saw is excellent. Most of the slabs I'm dealing with are walnut and cherry. More than half of the cuts I'm making are ripping cuts (parallel to the grain) which is considerably harder for the saw than cross-cuts (perpendicular). Secondarily, much of the wood I'm processing is what is known as "crotch wood", wood located in and around limbs and V's. This wood tends to be highly figured, and much harder than staight-grained areas of the tree.The saw not only has the power to make these cuts with relative ease, but leaves a very clean finish on both surfaces. When I ordered the saw, I also purchased a replacement blade made specifically for ripping. I experimented with both blades. While the original blade that came with the saw cut the wood fine, the replacement blade made ripping cuts more easily. This is not to say that the original Skil blade was lower quality. For cross-cuts i could tell little difference and, in its defense, the original blade was not designed for ripping.For certain the saw is a brute! Not only in terms of power but weight also. If I recall correctly it is nearly 15lb. In my assessment this is a good thing because the extra weight aides in controlling the power. A lighter saw with this kind of torque could be difficult to manage.Also, I was surprised at how quiet the saw is compared to other circular saws I've owned.In short, this saw is a marvel. It very easily makes straight, clean cuts through very thick hardwoods with ease. It's easy to handle and well designed for its purpose. The two handles are very comfortable to use and provide good control. I highly recommend this tool for this type of work.

What a beast! Love this thing! The only drawback is the diamond drive limits your blade purchase options but so far it’s chewed through everything I’ve tasked it to, even concrete!

I ordered this during a late-night tool rabbit hole because I wanted one saw for the thicker lumber around the house. As a remote software dev, I spend most weekdays at a desk, then try to knock out DIY projects on weekends. I used it to cut 4x4 legs for a small workbench, and it went through without making me flip each piece halfway through. That big blade is handy when the stock gets chunky. 🪚 The tradeoff showed up right away: this saw has real heft. Carrying it around the garage and lining up overhead cuts both felt awkward, so I’m not reaching for it for every little trim job. Still, for the bench frame, it did what I bought it for.

Decided to buy this after seeing it online because I was fixing up a few things around the house and wanted to cut thicker lumber for raised garden beds. One Saturday morning, I got the kids settled inside and trimmed the frame pieces in the driveway. It powered through them without much fuss. I appreciated the deep cut for those wide boards, and it felt steady once I got started. The part I’m still getting used to is the weight. I needed a break between cuts, especially when I was moving it around by myself. It also takes more room to store than my smaller saw. I’ve been reaching for it when a bigger DIY job comes up.

As a general contractor I’ve owned many circular saws. This one stands head a shoulders above the rest. If you are looking for a well designed and built powerful saw, this is it. I’m more than impressed

I bought this saw since I needed to cut loads of 4x4s and notch 6x6s. The power is velvety smooth, the cuts clean, and saved me loads of time. It is heavy, but the weight helps with the smoothness of the cut. Love to be able to see the blade since its righthand drive. More than met my expectations!
