Review: Arrived sooner than expected - Good reading Review: Too anthropomorphic for my taste - As a huge cat-lover and fan of animal fiction, I expected to enjoy this book, especially knowing how popular the series is among younger folk, but it was something of a disappointment for me. It’s true that I am not the target age-group, but I read a lot of young adult fiction (since many animal stories fall into that category) and often love it. This, though, was a little too juvenile for my taste. The story follows a young house cat who goes feral, learning about the clans of feral cats and their society. I disliked the fantastical elements (like cats literally having nine lives), and also the anthropomorphism. The cats often use human slang, for example, and some of them have names that include “Lion” or “Tiger” – how do they even know these animals exist? This wasn’t a dreadful book, and I know there are many people who love it, but it wasn’t for me.
