As any videographer knows, camera stability is essential for professional quality results, particularly when using a small camcorder or DSLR. Often it is not possible or practicable to set up or even carry a tripod. This is where a monopod comes into it's own. Manfrotto have an excellent reputation for producing quality equipment and so was my choice when choosing a new monopod for video and still photography. Whilst not the cheapest, the quality is up to the usual Manfrotto high standards. I opted for the 3 telescopic section (i.e.3 clip) version although a 4 section version is available. The fluid head works well and is big enough to support any size camera securely. Be aware that the supplied fluid head only tilts, panning is achieved by rotation of the whole pole section from the ball at it's base. Some people prefer to pay extra for the full tilt/pan head, but, I find the supplied head works well for me. This will be an individual choice, but I recommend trying the original head before spending extra. The ball at the base of the monopod is easily locked enabling the monopod to stand upright, unsupported, on its 3 base legs. I wouldn't recommend leaving it unattended with an expensive camera fitted! Whilst not the lightest monopod available, something to bare in mind if intending to put in your flight luggage, it provides excellent stability and allows various slider type effects when filming. I would recommend watching some of the videos on YouTube to see how versatile these monopods can be and some of the filming effects possible. The monopod comes with a wrist strap fitted, an excellent confidence booster when your expensive DSLR is fitted to the top and the adjustable arm off the fluid head helps provide smooth movement and stability to your video footage.

Muy contento con esta compra. Calidad Manfrotto.

I got this on sale, saving me hundreds and hundreds of dollars. This was until recently the top-of-the-range Manfrotto monopod, a new model has superseded it. I volunteer as a roaming cameraman at my church most Sundays. The 10 am service is live-streamed and we have one roaming camera, the others are all fixed locations. The Panasonic Rig I use is heavy, large lens, cage, and monitor and I have to manually zoom and focus because the Lumix model has lousy autofocus. I digress, I purchased the monopod to make my job easier, give me more height flexibility, and stop me from taking all the weight of the camera rig. This monopod is very well made. It feels very solid, has an excellent fluid head, and great mobility when the base legs are released. It is well balanced and I can let it stand on its own briefly. My arms don't ache anymore and my back doesn't get strained holding a heavy camera rig. I need to be able to move quickly to different locations so this is way better than a tripod could ever be. It makes the zooming and focussing easier and faster because the monopod takes the weight. Highly recommended. If this comes back up for sale, it cost me less than $300 when I purchased and it is worth every cent.
