what does 8x40dpsi mean

Simply it means that the binoculars magnify things 8 times (make things look 8 times closer), and the front lens (big lens) glass is 40mm in diameter (The bigger the front lens, the more light gets in and the brighter things look). Binoculars are a balancing act between magnification (the more magnification, the bigger the effect of hand shaking, the darker the image) and size/weight (the bigger the front lens, the bigger and heavier the binoculars). Thus you see 6x30, 7x50, 10x50, or in this case 8x40. I have tried lots over the years and I find these at 8x40 to be a very good balance.

Is it suitable for horse racing?

yes but you're probably going to have to stop to use them properly. Almost impossible to hold steady on a moving horse.

does it come with a case and lens caps?

Yes it does, case and lens caps, brilliant buy it was for us!

do they com with a strap to hang binos round neck and what is approx weight

Yes, a strap is included. The weight is just over 1.5lbs (750 grammes). A remarkably good bit of kit for very little money.
