Received this tool one hour ago. I have a 1988 90hp Yamaha and the hydraulic trim caps have never been off. The tool worked great, but the caps were stuck firm. To keep the tool from slipping, I slipped a 4 inch galvanized pipe over the trim rod and let the weight of the motor sit on the pipe, which kept the tool in place by the weight of the motor. I finally got the caps to move by used a breaker bar with another 15 inch cheater pipe on the breaker bar. I feel confident the cheaper tools available would have broke under the pressure that I had to use. I would recommend this tool for your project and skip the cheap ones.

The tool worked great with a breaker bar 24” on a 2006 Yamaha f150 Showa power tilt and trim assembly. Fast delivery and quality product. I highly recommend!

Great quality and it removed the trim caps from a Yamaha Showa trim/tilt unit easily.

This trim wrench (AMT0006) worked well for my 2005 Yamaha 115 2-Stroke (Stowa trim/tilt) once I was sent a replacement in the mail. The first wrench was a tad off-center and trying to get things done and get on the water the next day I tried forcing it and turning the trim cap with two pins seated. That didn’t work and I slightly rounded one of the pin holes (all three pins need to be bottomed out). Given the cost of this one-use tool I was annoyed that it didn’t work for me and called customer service. I thought I’d end up returning it as I had to leave a voicemail on their customer service line during business hours but received a call back a minute later. The person on the other end took my story and couldn’t confirm that this was a known issue but to my satisfaction said they’d send a new one to me right away (arrived 2-3 days later). Once I received the new pin wrench i had the caps off in 15 minutes (broke one pin but came with three back-up pins). The job took me around 2-2.5hrs but if you’re mechanically skilled and your trim rods don’t need to be cleaned (mine were all gunked up under the dust skirt and in the primary ram seal seat), it can be done much faster. This is the kind of thing I’d normally pay someone else to do but I can’t wait for the shop for 6 weeks in the middle of summer. A few tips: the breaker bar was helpful (didn’t have one but cheap at harbor freight), broken pins come out easily with a magnet, you may be able to save some $ and replace only the outermost seals/rubber (if I could do it over I’d only replace the main outer seal and dust skirt), make sure your manual release valve isn’t seized up (I had to make a custom fit flat head with a bench grinder as the tabs on mine are mangled), and the Marine Tech Tools youtube video was helpful in conjunction with my yamaha manual. Too bad the same wrench doesn’t have pin holes to remove the tilt cap. I’d have to spend another $70 for that tool but that seal appears to not be leaking so ok for now. The starboard trim cap / dust skirt isn’t leaking anymore so assuming my issue is fixed. I’d give this tool 4.5 stars if had that option. Only reason it’s not 5 stars is because of lost time and frustration with the first tool being drilled off-center. Not sure if a universal spanner wrench would work (looked at the OTC one) but justified buying this specific tool given that I’ve never had a use for a spanner wrench in the past and probably won’t anytime soon.

So glad I didnt buy a cheap one. This is a nice quality tool. Def a buy it once tool.

Finaly I was able to unscrew those caps on my power trim assy mechanic gave up last year. :/ They came off surprisingly easy but with substantial force and 2ft braker bar. That would illustrate how strong the tool/pins are. I got 4,5mm & 4mm pins in the package, 6 pieces of each. Don't know if it was a gift or what since I didn't see that stated anywhere. Also, fact is I bought NEW type wrench (circular with 4 pins shown here) because state of trim unit was really bad so one extra pin could maka a difference, or so I thought. Original C shaped 3 pin wrench came in and I wasn't happy but it did the job without a hitch. Cost me more than double the price in USA (shipping and customs) but it was worth. It is a tool for professional use so you decide if it's worth the price for DIY.
