Does this shampoo work well even if you don't use the matching conditioner?

It does but honestly I hate the way the shampoo by itself makes my hair feel. I definitely recommend using the conditioner also. It will leave your hair soft and tangle free!!

Up to how many grains hard will this product work?

Sorry, not sure but it does help.

Does it works good on dark hair?

I have dark hair that is bleached and it works great on mine. I don't think the color of hair matters.
