Reveals both art and science
As a teacher of qualitative research at the graduate level, this book is a valuable aid in offering tips and tricks from different modalities of research. I find that it is easy for students to grasp the concept of varied forms of data, but it takes a book like this to help distill meaning from lived experience or qualitative transactions.

Definitely helpful as I learn to code

Great resource to have while working on my doctoral degree.

Are you lost? Johnny Saldaña will show you the way!
I’m writing a dissertation in practice using a methodology that, from what I can find, hasn’t been used before (Van Tiem, Dessinger, and Moseley’s performance improvement model). There is no guidance as to how to go about coding, so I’m having to create my own path and be sure to still find lots of justification around it. I’m thisclose to dedicating my final document to Saldaña 😂 While the examples are definitely more geared toward social justice, his quick explanations of each coding method make it really easy to figure out what I should do next. All qualitative research courses should have this as an assigned textbook.

For beginners and intermediates
A very well written book about coding and everything that comes along with it. Be it the mere definition of the terminologies or how to apply coding techniques and how they relate to each other (or not): this book is my go to when designing, re-checking or implementing coding in my qualitative work. Highly recommend it!

This was a Fundamental Book in completing my PhD in Nursing!
I initially purchased this book as a requirement for an Advanced Qualitivate research course I had to take as part of a PhD program. The author did a really great job of making the content easy to understand and follow, whereas other similar type texts can be dry and difficult to grasp the concepts. The topics are blocked in nice sections and there is reasonable amount of text per page. In fact, I appreciated the writing style and quality of information so much that I continued to use this text throughout the research and writing of my dissertation, and now officially am a PhD graduate.
