ES3432W Home Theater Energy-Saving Surge Protector ES3, 4 Outlets, Wall Tap, White

My wife and I had wanted a, "vampire killer," for a while, and finally decided to buy this surge protector. The installation was easy enough, simply screwing into the faceplate of a socket. I wasn't entirely sure, as the instructions weren't very clear, but that worked. I plugged our TV into the Master, along with a Fire TV and Chromecast into the switched outlets. As expected, the outlets for the Fire TV and Chromecast didnt turn on until we turned on the TV. We turned off the TV, and the switched outlets turned off. Excellent.

Purchased from woot.com (an amazon.com company) Set it up according to the direction, with the television as the master, but the peripherals are ALWAYS on. So this doesn't save me a thing on energy. I might sent it back. If anyone could help me it would be appreciated. I will update the the review if it begins working. _______ UPDATE. I went from 1 star to 4 stars. It appears this just takes a more time than I was giving it to learn the wattage of the TV.

I'm not extremely familiar with surge protectors but my husband said we needed one so I did some research. I purchased this Ideative as well as one by "Monster" and I have to say that the lower-priced one, this Ideative, is the best of the two. We needed TWO sets of protection for our new TV/audio system as well as for our computer and 3 computer screens which we have never protrected from surges. What I like FAR better about the Ideative is its plug-in placement. One is on the side (best for our speaker system which is low to the ground) and we plugged our TV into the Master switch. With everything plugged in, not only do we get surge protection but all we do now is turn on our TV and the audio fires up automatically as well as our PVR and Blu-Ray player. EASY! We don't use the coax connector but we did plug our home network and phone through the phone and Ethernet surge protection jacks. (We have neighbors who swear a surge through their phone once knocked out there Uniden phone handsets and answering machine.) So now we are far better protected from surges, the strip's Master control makes our use of our system much easier than before, and if it actually does save us the $50 a year it says it saves, then it pays for itself in half a year or so. It's a no-brainer!
