Initiation: Boys Are Born, Men Are Trained: My Journey with an Apache Medicine Man

This is one of those books that is full of profound wisdom and enlightening thoughts. The vision and understanding found in what JP writes in this book is truly incredible! I was a bit hesitant to read this book as it appeared to be just another book that looked good, but disappointed. To the contrary, I think pretty much everyone should read a book like this. It brings back some very important history that was and somewhat still is part of our American heritage. His character, Phillip, the Apache medicine man is a wonderful part of the book. I think that JP should consider a part two of this wonderful book. People need the blessings he provides in what he writes. Thanks so much for a great read and all the pertinent information related to the world we live in today.

One does not normally sit down to read a book expecting to have a significant impact on their life. Or a SPIRITUAL JOURNEY of such awesome magnitude as I did with this spellbinding book. I have more than once picked up a book to read and within the first chapter finding myself tossing it aside never to reopen it. Not so with "INITIATION - Boys Are Born, Men Are Trained"! It was quite apparent to me that the author of this work was bearing the "Spiritual Mantle" of another.... a true Mantle of Authority. But as I read through the riveting firsthand account of Jeffrey Prather's life's training with an Apache Medicine Man named Phillip it did not take long to discover that this was more than a Mantel given to a young man by an Apache Medicine Man...it was a gift given to the rest of us who are willing to listen to the words of wisdom and warning. Although penned by Jeffrey Prather and spoken through him, I found myself so intently caught in the message of this book that it was if it was being spoken by Phillip himself to me as well..... and perhaps that is what is meant to take place for those who will open themselves to the TRUTH being taught within its pages. The message can be taught...but it can only be "CAUGHT" by those who are willing to sit and listen.Few indeed ... will truly catch it! Phillips words and Jeffrey's experiences are powerful medicine which have been left for each us. So good and powerful that one needs to drink deep from the well of its WISDOM. Perhaps a well divinely placed for us to once again find AMERICA'S soul which has been wandering for decades!

This book will change your perspective on everything. No matter where you are on your spiritual walk, there is something to be gleaned from this entirely true story. If you are just awakening, buckle up. If you have been on the path for some time, prepare to be taken deeper. This book gets down to nuts and bolts with some assembly required. The rubber meets the road here and once you become aware of the possibilities, you simply are not the same. The elements of this story simply stay with you and the first thing you are certain of upon completion is that you most definitely need (want) to read it again...very soon.

I give this 4 stars (for many it will be a 5 star book and for some a 1 star….its value is definitely tied to what you make of it).There are a few minor editing issues. Wether the text is 100% factual or not, if you cannot accept metaphor some of its content will be difficult to accept or apply like any other deeply personal journey or tale.I have read this cover to cover and plan to read it again soon. There are many great lessons here and nothing that asks me to believe anything that I do not find to be true for myself.At the end of the day I believe it to be a great book that I highly recommend.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I decided to buy this book. I never met Jeffrey, but have a deep respect for him. I bought the Kindle version because it was an inexpensive way to test the waters. I soon found I was glued to the book and finished it in one weekend - luckily my wife has a deep respect for Native American culture, so she let me read away all weekend. All I can say is, I found this story to be incredibly powerful. Rings true on many levels. I spent the last 6 years searching for truth, and this has many synchronicities that ring true to me. Incredible.I just ordered a hard copy to highlight certain parts and be able to lend to some friends.Thank you, once again, Jeffrey for your incredible service to others. God bless you.

I have yet to read it but it's in perfect condition and arrived in good time.

Mr. Prather describes a world that in some ways, is quite foreign but nevertheless contains many clear and undeniably profound truths and intriguing insights. As a disciple of Jesus Christ I try to validate every new concept and related experience through the only entirely dependable book, the Bible to which I am wholly committed to and dependent upon. I would like to believe that Mr. Prather’s spiritual/mystical experiences are in concert with Biblical teachings but I am fairly certain that that belief would not be validated.The writing is excellent and the account is indeed captivating. The two protagonists are unique and exemplary.

This is an inspiring and instructional book and an immensely enjoyable read. We should all let go of fear and ego and try to live a life of gentle ferocity.
