I really, really like this DAC for what it does, and the price and the controllability of both the volume and the bass. I found only one flaw with this unit, and that was the power supply. Apparently my system (amplifiers, signal processors, etc.) are very sensitive when it comes to signal noise. I have had other system in the past where I had a constant AC oscillation and/or very high pitched noises coming out of the mids and tweeters. When I first hooked up the unit using the supplied power supply, I immediately noticed a small bit of AC oscillation and a very high pitched squeal. I first suspected RCA cables, no sir. Then I was thinking the Toslink cable was crap, so I bought a better one, still the same noise. So finally I replaced the power supply with a much cleaner more robust power supply, and the bad sounds are gone completely. I did still add an inline passive RCA gain adjustment, because some sources are very loud and some are not so loud, so I basically have two volume controls for my home system.So if you do get this unit, and I do recommend this unit, you may not have to replace the power supply. Otherwise, the clarity and overall sound that this unit converts from my TV is amazing. Audiophile quality at fractions of the cost. I keep looking for a better unit, but everything else is in the $200+ dollar range.

Perfect with remote, worked quickly out of the box using digital output from new Sony oled, pcm output was already selected, I have two old mackie mixing self powered near field monitors that provide excellent bass and stereo field with TV leading the focus. I first bring up TV volume, then slowly increase volume using the DAC remote to a perfect balance. Lots of very clear bass and horns and drums without the usual boominess of subs. The bass boost seems to add a chorus like doubling effect so I don’t use it or need it. There is an audio click when the TV turns on even though the unit is off but the speakers are on? How does turning on the tv send DAC audio to make a loud click from the speakers when the unit is off? Small problem but awesome sound quality with remote! Just what I have been waiting for to put old excellent powered speakers to use!

Works with my Samsung 8000 series & Philips DVD player + sound system! The sound system ORIGINALLY is a 5.1 channel, but upon reading that this device doesn't support 5.1, but instead only supports 2.1.. After hooking it up, I really didn't care! I could watch Netflix or Live TV with sound coming from my old soundbar. I did have to do some brainstorming, as with everything connected, the sound wasn't coming out.. But soon figured out that my RCAs were connected to AUX in instead of TV in, on the back of my Philips DVD Player... Once those were changed and put in their appropriate slots, VOILA! No more watching Netflix and hearing crappy sound through the TVs built-in speakers!One thing I'll note though is.. I wish the converter unit, came with a volume counter or just a light that blinks... The light only blinks once you've reached maximum volume on the converter, but not every time you press the volume button on the remote... But that's just a small gripe for an overall great, affordable device!

The first thing I noticed is the IR remote, excellent range. I have been using my TV as a "digital selector" with TV, computer, Netflix/YouTube, Blu-Ray and most importantly USB as my audio sources. However, TV/monitor cannot control the volume over optical output. This little box solved all the problems I had.I do hear occasional clipping noise. Typical audio input/output level is 1V r.m.s. or 2.83V peak to peak. This leaves little headroom for the output stage inside the box to handle the signal, using a +5V power supply. The clipping is more obvious when the bass is boosted. So I used the "RESET" button in the center of the remote to bypass any bass boost or attenuation function. Since I use a preamp with tone control this is the preferred operating mode for me anyway. However, I could still hear occasional clipping when my music is very rich in bass. My final solution is to turn up the volume on my preamp to avoid high output level from the DAC.Relatively speaking the step size of the volume control is on the high side but acceptable for me. The sound quality is very good and better than much higher priced DAC I used to have using older technology. The price is unbeatable.I deducted one star due to the clipping issue.

Needed to use an optical connection for sound out from Vizio TV to mini amp and bookshelf speakers as RCA plugs transmitted ground loop static from Vizio TV audio out.Because the Vizio remote does not affect the volume from optical audio out, and since since my mini amp doesn't have a remote, I wanted a DAC with a remote to control the volume. Reviews on other units said their remotes did not modulate well.The remote for this unit, however, works great -- volume is fully linear from soft to loud, includes a mute button, a bass boost (doesn't do much on my set up) and unlike the others, has a button to shut down the unit.Checked all my boxes. 5 stars.

The products works as advertised. It basically converts optical signals to analog for 35mm headphone and RCA stereo out. To make it work, do select the PCM mode on the tv. One thing I noticed is that the headphone jack produces good volume but if you use the stereo RCA out port and use a RCA to 3.5mm stereo cable, the volume is low. The remote is what the price is for - all buttons on the remote (bass +/-, volume +/-, mute) works.
