Is there a way to immediately let the whole thing reset (go down to its non pumped height)?

Neighbor ... sounds like you are a newbie.    We were all that, once.    The handle fits over the operating valve and piston action depends on whether it is open or not.    Twist clockwise to close and pump .... the piston goes up.     Twist counterclockwise to open and the piston retracts .... if, there is sufficient weight on it or it has a spring to retract the piston.     The large screw in the top is manually adjusted out or in.    Please remember that this unit isn't reliable enough for you to get under the car after you have lifted it.    Jack stands are needed and you must be certain that the car cannot move.    That means emergency brake set and wheel chocks are needed.   Sorry if I got too specific or described things you already knew.    Just tryin' to be a good neighbor .... ron :-)

car weighs 2500 lbs...is this ok to lift one corner of the vehicle for a brake job?

Sure but you need block the vehicle up or put it on a jack stand. I'd not trust the jack to hold my car up while I'm working on it. Only to lift it.

Will this work horizontally?

The dual chamber theory of operation does not inherently prevent it from working in a horizontal orientation. The issue will be whether or not there will be sufficient oil continuously available at the pump with it laying on its side. It may work with the pump jack handle oriented in one position but not turned in another. For that you'll need to experiment and see if it will work in the configuration you are needing. First of all make sure the jack is completely full of oil. I don't think you can over fill them. Try adding oil with it positioned in the orientation in which you plan to use it and see if it will take any. That may make all the difference. I suggest you first go down to Walmart or Harbor Frieght and play with a jack or two before you buy one if your application requires a horizontal orientation. Experiment with one oriented exactly as you need to use it. All those cheap Chinese bottle jacks are essently the same so playing with one should be as good as another. Please post the results. I'm now curious if it'll work oriented on its side. Good luck! Jeff

How could you mount something to the top of this?

Could hot, electric welding be accomplished on this  TORRIN BOTTLE JACK to mount another TOP? ...
...Certainly NEVER Electric nor any other Hot Welding! ....ruins the Jack instantly of course, by burning-out the seal...
