I heard this CD at a friend’s house and was immediately taken by it so I bought it. It is my new favourite CD (I must be in danger of wearing it out I’ve played it so many times already). I like Neil Diamond to start with but with the LSO in the background he’s really magical. A must buy and very highly recommended.

I've been a big music collector for over 50 years covering most genres and have lately bought the greats revamped and orchestrated i.e. Roy Orbison, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Beach Boys, Rod Stewart, Cilla etc with Philharmonic and symphony orchestra and I have enjoyed almost all versions especially the big O and Beach Boys. So when I saw Neil Diamond with the London Symphony I expected a similar pleasant addition of orchestra to the originals, but not all, here we have Neil Diamonds input and a true reimagination of the songs along with beautiful orchestration. The result is stunning and I find myself playing it over again most days. Just sit back, relax and let it wash over you.

As a fan of Mr Diamond since the 70s, he has provided one of the most influential, and wonderful, soundtracks to my life and remains a favourite. With this recording he appears to have defeated time, as his voice sounds just as good as ever, amazing when you consider just how long ago he first recorded some of these gems. Great to hear these tracks rearranged, I even really like Song Sung Blue now, it was never a personal favourite before. I love all these rearranged tracks, they are not necessarily better than the originals (especially 'Play Me' which has always touched perfection for me) but they are different and rewarding. Great stuff, more please Neil. And please do 'Lady Oh' on the next one!

Stunning sounding album. Neil’s songs lend themselves to an orchestral arrangement and the results are fantastic. Each song has been carefully arranged and adjusted suitably to fit the mood and emotional value each piece offers. My favourite has to be “Holly Holy” with the introduction giving a bit of an Eastern sound. - I think a sitar has been used alongside piano and drums. Neil’s voice is still perfect given his great age. Buy as you won’t be disappointed.

Never knew why my mother liked Neil Diamond so much. Not until the day I saw an old Australian Neil Diamond concert with a very young and very sexy Neil Diamond singing his greatest hits!!! Now I got to know more about him, his songs and I love these songs!!! I really listened to the lyrics now.

Um es vorwegzunehmen: 5 "diamant'ne" Sterne gibt es von mir für dieses neue Album. Ich selbst bin Jahrgang "Sgt. Pepper", also bereits jahrzehntelang Musik- infiziert. Doch jene Song- Perlen, gewissermaßen Neils "Diamanten" (in Anspielung auf seinen Nachnamen) müssen stets an mir vorbeigekullert sein. Ich kannte lediglich -- früher oft beim Einkaufen im Supermarkt gehört -- die offensichtlichen Aushängeschilder "Song song blue" und "Forever in blue jeans". Auch hatte ich schon mitbekommen, dass "I'm a believer" von den Monkees aus seiner Feder stammt. Ebenso "Sweet Caroline", das Elvis Presley ja 1970 so wunderbar gestikulierend in seinen Konzerten rüberbrachte. Ja, und dann gibt es noch eine kleine schöne persönliche Geschichte: Vor vielen Jahren stürmte ich als Dreikäsehoch -- kein Witz -- die Treppenstufen einer Dunkelachterbahn im Brühler Phantasialand. Die recht zögerliche Einleitung eines bestimmten Liedes muss dabei natürlich völlig an mir vorbeigerauscht sein. Bis mich dann plötzlich folgender wuchtige Refrain ansprang: "They're coming to America .... today !!!" Tja, damals gab es noch keine Musikerkennungs- Apps und kein Internet, in dem man Liedzeilen googeln konnte. So dauerte es Jahre lang, bis mir ein Musikfreund den Hinweis auf Neil Diamond geben konnte. Und NUN habe ich tatsächlich endlich (!) erstmals (!) eine CD von Neil Diamond bestellt. Sicherlich aus Neugierde, möglicherweise aber auch aus kleinen Fünkchen Langeweile oder Frust inmitten eines augenblicklichen Corona- Lockdowns. Auch habe ich im ersten Moment das hiesige London Symphony Orchester namentlich verwechselt mit dem Royal Philharmonic Orchester, welches, nun ja, in schauriger Regelmäßigkeit die Standard- Werke von Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison und aktuell Johnny Cash virusartig befällt und dabei traditionell gewohnte Strukturen durcheinanderbringt. Ich weiß, natürlich kann es im Einzelfall auch eine interessante Bereicherung sein. HIER jedoch ist alles anders. Neil Diamond ist noch einmal ins Aufnahmestudio gegangen und hat alle 14 Titel neu eingesungen. Die Spielzeit beträgt genau eine Stunde. Ein schönes 24 seitiges Begleitheftchen ist dabei, mit einem Grußwort von Neil Diamond und sehr genauen Angaben zu allen Songs. Toll -- es kann sich immer noch lohnen, körperliche Tonträger zu kaufen. Und auch die Musik enttäuscht mich nicht. Sie hat mich, bei der aufgezeigten Vorgeschichte, sogar positiv überrascht. Neil Diamonds Stimme ist wunderbar eingebettet in den neuen fülligen, aber nicht pompös überproduzierten Sound. Das London Symphony Orchester, übrigens das Orchester mit den meisten eingespielten Aufnahmen weltweit, ist mit Sachverstand und Feingefühl herangegangen. Oft verliere ich mich wohltuend in diesen neuen Werken, bis mich ein dann doch bekannter Refrain oder das Ende eines Liedes aus der positiven Befangenheit herausreißt. "Classic Diamonds" hat etwas Feierliches an sich. Es ist zwar vom Tempo her recht ruhig, dabei aber nicht langweilig, gewissermaßen atmosphärisch spannend. Phasenweise hat es einen Touch von Musical oder Film- Musik. Es eignet sich hervorragend zum Entspannen bei einem Glas Rotwein oder (ganz besonders) zu einem Candle Light Dinner in den eigenen vier Wänden. Die 79 Lebensjahre höre ich Neil Diamond übrigens kein bisschen an. Was wird wohl nächstes Jahr zu seinem runden 80. Geburtstag herauskommen? Dieses Album jedenfalls hat mich in sehr schöne Stimmung bringen können. Sogar wiederholt. Dafür 5 Sterne.
