What happened to the pinon nuts listed in the ingredients?  Now it says "may contain flavoring"?

Greetings, Windhorse!A recent decision made at the ownership level of New Mexico Pinon Coffee Company has resulted in our no longer including actual piñon in most of our coffee blends.  The scarcity of wild piñon in New Mexico due to a decade or more of drought (accompanied by the pine bark beetle infestation) has made acquiring quality piñon very difficult.  Also, increasing concerns in the public sphere regarding various allergens in foods and beverages -- including nuts such as piñon -- refocused our attention on the judiciousness of including actual piñon in our coffee.  Some of our vendors will not accept the coffee if it has the actual piñon in it. From the very inception of our New Mexico Piñon Coffee, piñon has comprised a very small percentage of our coffee blend (generally less than 2%).  Much of the nutty flavor experienced in drinking our coffee has been derived from the proprietary, custom-made piñon flavoring which we have used with our coffee from the start.  This flavoring is free of major allergens (including those for nuts).  If you've been ordering our coffee for a number of years, there should be no discernible difference in the flavor with the nuts now absent from the blend.  That said, we will likely retain a few vendors or retail customers for whom we can include some actual piñon in their coffee upon special request for orders that are placed directly with us (at our Website or by phone). does the coffee beans come with the roasted pine nut?

Good question. Ok, Pinon Coffee is the name of the company. The bean used is 100% Arabica. They say the coffee is inspired by the subtly sweet pinon nut. I can say their coffee is mild not harsh or bitter. My wife likes it as do I. I buy it to keep her happy. Nothing worse than a grumpy wife in the morning!
