Worked Well - lots of slag but that's OK
Used these to weld a 316 SS 48" piano hinge to mild steel sheet metal and to solid rod mild steel. Actually made a hinged plank to cover the gap between a pull-down rear trailer door and the trailer floor so it's easy to roll carts in and out of the trailer. These rods are only 16th of an inch thick and short (14in). Used DC welder at about 70 amps and it arced nicely, but each rod didn't last long. Welds didn't burn thru 14 gauge mild steel sheet metal, but I did burn thru much thicker stainless steel hinge in a few spots, but that was my fault, not the rod's. About 1/2 the weld was slag, but after knocking the slag off, there was a shinney stainless steel weld underneath. I didn't try the rod with AC since AC on mild steel causes a lot more spatter. I did use these to weld mild steel to mild steel and they worked fine for that too.Overall, these rods exceeded my expectations and since I could only buy them in a 5lb lot, I have plenty more to use on future projects.JimG

ss stick welding rod
I do weld allot at work but mostly 7018 big stuff mild steal very easy and forgiving but I am putting a long block in my old 87 ford truck and had to cut the exhaust out and i did not want to pay a shop just to weld it back in place and do not want to buy a wire welder just for one job as I have a small DC welder already so I ordered the 5lb box of 3/32 rods and tried them out today and wow they weld nice and at low amp on my welder today at 65Amp they work great going to try even lower amps when i fix the rest after removing the cats I will need a 3' pipe to fill in the system were the cats are removed......i did do more of a stitch weld today to keep from burning threw the thin pipe but hay it is strong and works all i need $35 for 5lb box of rods is allot better than paying $200 and a half a day to have a shop do it and i still have 90% of the rods left for next time :-) or other needs with SS

First time welding stainless steel. I'm surprised by these rods.
Maybe I'll add more to this later, but these weren't any harder to me than laying 7018 rods. I used around 50 amps, DCEP. It was 1/8" stainless. Maybe DCEN for thinner stuff?
