INSTALLATION EASY, WORKS IMMEDIATELY
Installation took me about 30 minutes overall. MAKE SURE YOU TURN THE BREAKER TO THE HEATER OFF! I just switched the unit off, and ended up blowing the circuit board fuse - it's a 5 amp car fuse and I had one around, but it's a mistake you'll enjoy not making. You need to remove a few panels, then remove the sensor adapter from the intake line. Unscrew the adapter, replace it and screw the adapter back in. Follow the line through the heater - the cord runs bundles with others line and I cut and replaced the tie clips as I went to remove the old line and secure the new. Eventually you work back to the circuit board and switch plugs.I've only had it in for a few weeks but working perfectly. (The old one had lasted for about 5 years.)

BE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR SERIAL NUMBER/MODEL NUMBER FOR THE CORRECT VARIATION OF THE PART YOU NEED!
This sensor did not have the correct adapter to fit both the original or the new control board for the Raypak Model P-R406A-EN-C; manufactured after 2004. The adapter is too large and does not fit the control board. However, the manual clearly lists this part number as the part for this model. It's very frustrating anymore dealing with Raypak because they are constantly changing their parts. Instead of revising the part numbers to coincide w/ these revisions, they keep the exact same part number! So, you end up having multiple variations of the same part w/ the identical part number. How the heck are you supposed to know you have the correct one for your specific model? The manufacturer can not even keep them straight! They have given me the wrong info. regarding part numbers before (even though I always confirm both the model & serial numbers with them by phone prior to ordering). It's like playing the lottery; you always have a 50% change of getting the wrong version of the part you need. It's super frustrating! You have to make sure you check w/ the manufacturer and compare the serial number (not just the model #) so that you get the correct part for the age of your heater. Of course, if the seller doesn't specify this in their description of the part, including either the range of serial #'s or manufacturing dates that the part being sold corresponds w/, you have no way of knowing if you are getting the correct part. The manufacturer was not even aware of the different temperature sensors when I called them to question it but obviously (as shown in the photos below) they are not all the same! I'm not sure if this one is generic or just another example of what I stated above. This sensor was larger than the original one too! Get it together Raypak! The 1st photo shows the old sensor & board. As you can see it fits. The new sensor was much too large and would not fit in either the original or the new control board.

Buy the original and avoid my mistakes
This original (OEM) and more expensive temp sensor is the only one that actually works.I just installed this one and it works. What a surprise! The cheaper ones sold elsewhere and not from Raypak are JUNK.Temp readings are all over the map (some wildly high and some wildly low) and the stainless steel outer shell corroded quickly. They are worthless. Avoid the mistake that I made in the past when I was drawn in by the cheaper price for the generic replacements.Sometimes you cannot accept a cheaper substitute.

Raypak 406A pool heater temperature sensor replacement
I bought this to replace a temperature sensor in my Raypak 406A pool heater. I was getting a temperature sensor error. The water temperature reading for my pool heater was not correct and therefore I could not heat my pool. One of the wires broke off the temperature sensor so I bought this new one to replace it. It took me about 15 minutes to replace and the pool heater is working great! This was a very easy install. You have to take out a total of eight screws to remove two different panels and then you just push the temperature sensor down into the hole where the water comes into your heater and plug the other end into the motherboard.

The calibration of the unit is far from accurate
The temperature sensor doesn't read the actual water temperature correctly. The calibration must be pretty far off.

Lasted just shy of two years.
Product was easy to install and worked well until today. I'm being identical product to replace and hope for longer life on the next one. Still a decent deal to fix myself for <$50. We use the pool a great deal. Its only annoying. Price went up $10 since Agu 2019.

This is a direct replacement.
This product was made by Raypak not an aftermarket part that did not work for me previously.

Disappointed!
Before purchasing the sensor I read the reviews and had some concern that some of reviewers stated that the sensor did not read the temperature accurately. They stated that the reading was about 30 degrees out. I bought it anyway. Stupid me. I installed the sensor and sure enough it is providing a reading which is almost exactly 30 degrees lower than the actual temperature. I’m going to leave it for a day or two and see if it corrects itself. If not I will be returning it. Don’t waste your money. This sensor does not work properly.
