Is it air tight? Will it keep a pie from getting freezer burned?

It snaps shut, but not so tight that I would use it to freeze a pie. It is useful for keeping pies, leftover pizza, cookies, etc., fresh but I wouldn't use it in the freezer.

What is the measurement across the bottom of the container?

Bottom diameter = 9", top diameter = 11 3/4", depth = 3 1/4"

Can a hot pie be put in this?

I put a vegan chicken pot pie that was at 156° and it did just fine but it was only in there for about 30 minutes to take it over to a party. I put a paper towel on top so that it would absorb any moisture and not go back down onto the crust. It worked perfect.

If the hinge breaks will the lid still snap on to the bottom half?

The plastic is very durable and firm. I would think that the top cover will hold in place with the bottom portion. I can't imagine the hinge tearing off. I have used this carrier to transport many pies without any damage. I even used this carrier transport a pie on the aircraft without any problems. I'm very satisfied with this carrier.
