Nostalgia
I loved these stories as a kid and now my daughter also loves them. I think sheβs very entertained by the trouble David gets into. She asks questions like βwhyβs he doing that?β and has me stop on pages so she can take in whatβs happening. I also think itβs really helpful to explain that different place and people have different rules. Which helps answer questions about other kids families.

So fun for toddlers!
My son (now 8) loved these books. I went to find our copy to lend to a friend who has a 3 year old daughter whose favorite (only?) word is, "NO." I can't find our copy so I bought this and, "No, David!" for them. These books are really fun for toddlers because, let's face it, most of their day is filled up with "No" and "Stop" and "Come along" and "Put that down"..... This gives them the chance to be the one doing the scolding!! When I read these books with my little one, he quickly memorized the dialogue and couldn't wait to turn the pages, so he could laugh at David's antics and tell him to stop. I would also use the opportunity to ask, "What is David DOING?!?!" so that he could vocalize the naughty behaviors (carrying too much stuff, teasing the cat, etc....) I read a couple of reviews that complained that these books set a bad example, but I think those people honestly missed a teaching moment or two. And I think the art is awesome, not the least bit scary!! These will be classics for years to come.

Is it really that serious?
I thought this would be a fun book but itβs just not for us. I donβt agree with some of the things David gets in trouble for.

Knowledge
My daughter who is 8 years old wrote me a story of when I was a kid. She gathered information from my parents and surprised me on my birthday with a small chronicle about my childhood memories. Books are the tools for growth. Very powerful message on this book. Highly recommend reading it at least 10-15 times!

We bought this book after coming across the animated versions on You Tube. Although thereβs more story in the online version, the books are equally enjoyable. You can narrate the story to your kids, do voice-overs for characters and make it a wholesome experience. Also, they are reasonably priced on Amazon India.

Yes - but admit it - we all love a bad influence once in awhile :) We first read about David in David Shannon's award winning book "No David" roughly 5 years ago. This book was so well loved I just had to get the next one "David Get's in Trouble". The first book has a monologue by David's Mother which primarily consists of the word "No" with a few variations. This book tells David's side of the story, but once again David is in trouble from the word go --- or should I say no? This book begins with a crude childlike drawing of David with small eyes, sharp teeth and a halo over head and text telling us what David says when he gets in trouble. Now David is really not a bad a child, at least not in my opinion - but trouble is his constant companion. It all begins with a quick trip on his skateboard across the front room - and naturally a few accidents along the way. Most of David's trouble is accidental - or just forgetfulness - he even forgets to put his trousers on before school one day. The one truly naughty event is when he pulls the poor cats tail saying "But she likes it"! The illustration makes quite clear that the cat most certainly does not enjoy this treatment, and I made a point of telling my children - we don't really pull animals tails because it would hurt them. But for the most part the book shows the types of problems most children get into - making messes, saying bad words, and not wanting to eat what Mom has cooked for tea. The text is also very simple. except for the first page - which has two lines each page has only one very simple sentence written in large black crayon letters. My children have both had this memorised by the age of two and can point out the words as they "read" the book along with me. Of course the oldest really can read it now, but this book was great book to get them starting with reading. I think this book is perfect to encourage young children to start reading. Best of all though, this book will convince any child that reading is fun. It's the perfect book to encourage the most reluctant reader, or just to share with your little one at story time. I recommend this for ages 1 -7.
