Isn't there any product like this that is sound activated?

I haven't found one - aside from this, the two other products that I've found that are similar are the "Tattle Tale" which is triggered by vibrations, and the "Ssscat" which is also a motion detector. I've tried all three and the Ssscat is the only one that works with my cats.

What batteries does it need?

It plugs in to your outlet and I 100% DO NOT RECOMMEND buying this does NOT work.

Will it keep my cat off kitchen counters? What if it is on one counter and he jumps on the others? Can he still come in kitchen?

It should work for the area it has been placed in. Kitty may or may not choose to go on another counter. Depending on how sensitive he is, he may or may not come in the kitchen. I don't know how big your kitchen is.

How far does the sound carry? If it is on the kitchen counter, and I set it off myself, would the sound affect my cat if she is in the same room?

If you have it on the counter and the cat is on the floor it don't seem to affect my cat but he don't even get on the table which is about 15 feet away, but my other cat does get on table and it don't affect him perhaps since he is an older cat about 13 years he may not hear it.
