Pastor Search process? Must read
Extremely helpful guide as we look at a transition plan for our pastor of 33 years. You will also want to read “Search” and “Next”- also by Vanderbloemen

Every Leader Leaves, Not Every Leader Succeeds - this book helps!
Kind of like estate and legacy planning - we all will die, but so few prepare for the legacy and transition they’d want until it’s too late. Every leader will one day not lead, but how can we prepare and learn from transitions before us to better honor God, advance the mission and truly fulfill our charter as a leader in the final act? Peter and Doug offer a gift by wading into so many real case studies, both good and bad, to draw out principles, frameworks, insights and actionable helps for any leader of an organization that should lifecycle beyond the current leader. I’m grateful that Peter and Doug took the time to make this book happen. It’s needed! I love how real and practical it is.

A must read for all leaders
After founding and running a nonprofit, I could name a dozen topics of which there seems to be no 'guide' or 'how-to' book. Succession is one of them. I wish I'd had this and read this long before my own transition out of an organization I helped start. It is practical, accessible, and full of wisdom from other leaders who have walked that path. I'd add it to the list of a board required reading list as well. So grateful for leaders who take the time to write this wisdom down in a book, saving others the pain of learning the hard way.

Important Read
Peter Greer and his co-author have reminded us of the importance of proper advance planning for a more likely successful succession. They address the issue squarely and fairly encouraging leaders and the boards to function as they are meant to. This book follows some of Peter's other books like "Mission Drift" and "The Board and the CEO" and "Rooting for Rivals". Taken together they provide a course in good governance. All are a must read.
