This adapter was the perfect solution to connect my Smart Samsung TV with an Optical Audio Output to my 'old school' Onkyo Stereo system with simple L/R stereo inputs. The price was fair, the quality is good, the power source was easy to connect, volume is easy to figure out, and the audio lag is correctable with a little bit of patience.... A+

I liked the first one so much that I bought two more the very same week! (Apparently you cannot submit a new review for something you had previously reviewed, so this is updated.) This is still 20% off, so $9.75 for each one; that's the best value out there for a unit of this quality!! Very simple to set up your HDTV or Blu-ray player with optical or coax output to RCA input to stereo. This is many steps above Bluetooth out, and better than straight RCA out. Very good, high quality build that is perfect for my LG UK6090PUA 50" TV ( an older model). This comes with a short ~18" toslink cable. (I've already ordered a 35 ft toslink cable from monoprice.com @ $11.99) This is the best solution for optical out from the TV to my stereo system. Your TV must output PCM (NOT DTS) for this to work. I did not get sound from two similar units or an AVR, so I worried the TV would not output PCM properly. The problem was most likely a damaged toslink cable, or the other units had stopped working. With the 20% off sale, & under $10, it was a no-brainer to give this a try. Now that I know this works properly, I will order two more units for my other TVs with stereo systems:-) Since Bluetooth out from Chromecast with Google TV is only about MP3 quality, this PCM|toslink|converter|RCA is the best sounding solution!! I'm using this little DAC so I can get the audio from my Roku to my old Denon receiver. I use the optical digital output from my TV into this little box and a regular stereo interconnect into my receiver. This DAC only handles PCM stereo, so you have to make sure the TV is set to output PCM stereo from the digital output. Doing this varies with different makes of TV, but the control is there in the audio settings, you just have to find it for your TV. Once hooked up with the proper TV settings, this works like a charm. The output is a little low, meaning that I have to turn up the receiver's volume a bit more than when listening to the output from my cable box, but that's what volume controls are for. Sound is pretty good, especially for a $14 DAC. The included optical cable is a "throwaway" quality item; mine was almost impossible to get into the converter itself and broke when I tried removing it. Considering a good quality optical cable would cost almost as much as this DAC, I don't really see that as a problem. Just realize you might want to order a better quality optical cable along with this DAC if you don't already have one. The included power supply is a plus and seems to be of good quality. Overall, this item does the trick and costs only $14. What more could you ask for?

Works great for my use, would be 5 stars, if it wasn't for 2 minor complaints I have. The power cable is pretty short, forcing me to have the device hanging, whereas, I'd rather it not be hanging off of the cables, suspended in the air. My next complaint is, the power adaptor has a bright red, LED, which lights up, it's unnecessary, and annoying. The device itself, already has one annoying, bright red LED, I don't see the need for one, on the power adaptor also. I used this, in conjunction with, my old computer speakers, which I've used over the years, as a poor man's surround sound. They are a simple 2 speakers and a bass box, meant for PC, this converter, works like a charm. This works with my 55" LG OLED TV, curved model (1080p version). So if you where wondering, yes it works with these OLED TV's, with webOS. You will, however, have to go into the settings on the TV, and turn on the option for surround sound speakers, you'll see options for HDMI Audio and stuff. The only annoyance (with the TV), is that by doing so, it cuts off the TV Audio, while this option for the optical Audio is on. This is good for most people, just that, I used to use the TV speakers as if it where a center channel. Besides this, it works fine with my old PC speakers and bass box. I just wish, these converter's, didn't require their own power, but nothing we can do about that. I can also confirm, this works perfectly fine, with my Xbox One. Plugged directly into the console, it works great. Doing it this way, I avoided losing TV speaker, audio. Price is good, does what I needed it to do, besides the points I mentioned above, solid device, id recommend to anyone, who needs to convert an old setup, to Optical Audio.

Works P-E-R-F-E-C-T with my older Onkyo 5.1 receiver to gain the audio portion. Din not rate the "volume control" provided by Amazon to review the product, because it is N/A; working thru my receiver ... and there is no set volume control on this device anyhow. Did need to purchase an extra Optical cable (only $6 !!) to add to the device. Heads up ... will probably have to tinker with setting on TV; I had'ta adjust settings on flat screen TV to actually make everything sync to get the audio thru my stereo system and after that ... good to go. Works great ! Very satisfied with the small investment to hook everything up the way I wanted and obtain sound quality that was desired. Highly recommend this product; you won't be sorry you spent the small amount of $$ they ask ... well worth it; and oh yeah, don't forget ... you will probably need to tinker with settings a bit and don't be stingy ... spend the extra $6 for a 6 foot long, extra optical cable line so as you are behind your components setting everything up; then you won't (oppps ... darn, not long nuff ... ugggh !!) have that let down feeling when you are setting up, only to realize that one of your cords is NOT long enough to get from device to another on your system.

I purchased this since my Hisense TV only has a 3.5mm headphone jack to run to the stereo (it's pretty old, like, 1987, but, still works well with the Bose 301's) with RCA type composite cables. The sound was overly loud and bassy. Since I run an HDMI to the soundbar, I can use the optical to this device, then out to the stereo receiver, sounds a whole lot better now, and I can hear the difference when flipping between this and the output from the headphone jack. It also makes a huge difference since the Bluray runs to the TV through HDMI, and the sound output comes from the TV. Movies and music CDs sound a lot better for those times I want to listen on stereo. And TV shows. Haven't tried with sports, but, I assume much better. Not that I'll use it this way, but, I have a second Bluray around as a spare, tried it with the digital coaxial out to the device. Had to turn TV off, since goes to same audio input on stereo, also sounded rather good, so, yes, you can have 2 things hooked up at same time. April update: I've only used it 6-7 times since I got it, went to use it, all I get is buzzing now. It's not the optical cable, works fine when connected to soundbar. Not the RCA cable, works fine with other things, even tried switching it out. Not the input, connecting two different Blueray players sounds fine. Should work more than 6-7 times, right?

Does not work. This setup is too simple to screw it up, so everything is connected properly. I followed the simple instructions to the letter. Connected it to an LG 60" TV. Only a pulsating mid-range tone is produced. There is no other sound. I then tried a different receiver with the same results. Tried every RCA receiver input with no change. This particular unit just seems to be total junk. I emailed the seller and am waiting for a reply. Will repost if I receive a solution to this problem. I expected it to work since this is just a simple standard TV and receiver setup.>>> ****PLEASE READ THIS EDITED REVIEW**** MUSOU DID RESPOND!! >>> I had originally given this converter a 1-Star Rating because of the reasons stated above. After contacting LG with questions about the TV's digital optical feature, I learned that the LG TV does not give an option to turn off Digital Dolby. I discovered after much trial and error that this converter does not accept Digital Dolby signals from the TV. Musou addressed my concerns in a very positive way. I am very pleased with the attention they gave my comments and suggestions. Even though this unit is by no means a high-priced unit, I felt as though the company was giving this issue all the attention as if I just purchased a high-priced system. They agreed that the product description located at the top of the Amazon page should include something about this unit’s limitation (Not Digital Dolby compatible). That would have prevented the confusion. They stated that my purchase will be refunded. I am now looking for a Musou converter that will accept and convert Digital Dolby to analog. I am actually not rating the product since I could not test out its functionality. I am rating the company response (5 stars) Thank you Musou.

Overall rating: 2.5/5.0 let me explain... 5/5 Rating for the product itself. It has Good value (good quality as it works just fine at the good price) 0/5 Rating for missing "Made in" information. I looked everywhere on the product pages before I purchased & couldn't find where this product was made. I was very disappointed to open this package when it arrived to read the dreaded 'Made in China.' I pefer Made in USA, and I'll settle for items made in other countries if the U.S. doesn't produce them. As a last resort do I want to support the Communist, Human-rights-violating regime when I can help it. I would've kept looking elsewhere at other companies that made this item if I had known where this was made. I felt hood-winked; as if Amazon doesn't want us to know where products are made.
