Hi, i am trying to decide between this item acr 2278 and a simmilar acr 2272. they are about the same any reason to chose one over the other.

2272 is the old version, Just a zipper on top that wasn't very reliable. New one has a flap.

Does it have an ectronic beacon?

This is just the bag. You could always purchase the Survival Kit that comes with the beacon.

Is there any waterproof charastic to this bag? Concerned about flares getting wet .........

The bag will float but you have to unzip it to get to the contents. We bought waterproof containers to store flares and all other items inside the bag. You can buy the waterproof containers here on Amazon.

Does this float once full of gear?

This bag is very buoyant it will float with up to 25 lbs of gear in it.

The bag is very roomy, lots of compartments to put what you need, and it floats. Great to have if you’re boating, and emergency happens. You can also put food/drinks in the compartment. Great bag!!

This is not waterproof, it floats though but water seeps in.

Big and bulky, but it does its job well—lots of storage space for all your emergency needs. We use this on a 38ft Power Cat, used for commercial offshore fishing charters. It is able to fit a large medical kit, spare flashlight, binoculars, EPIRB, flares and more. Our last one survived around 3 years before the zippers succumbed to too much salt buildup. Highly recommend applying a zipper lubricant/protectant. We have never had to 'ditch' yet, but I am sure this bag will be invaluable if we ever do. One small complaint is that the stitching on the seams could be a bit more rugged. The side pockets attached to the main bag will tear if you keep picking the bag up without using the shoulder strap.
