Question 1

Amazon will not ship this to california.  other descalers are made from sulfamic and citric acids, which delonghi says will harm the machine.  ideas?

Both lactic acid and citric acid are biological descaling (decalcifying) agents that are very suitable for descaling a coffee machine or other equipment. They are not aggressive descalers which only take off the lime scale and do not have any harmful effects on the machines. Both can therefore be used without any worry and the machine will work better, let the coffee taste better and extend the lifespan of the machine. Previously nearly all manufacturers advised a descaling agent based on citric acid. The reason for this is simple: it dissolves the lime better and therefore less active ingredients are required for a bottle of descaler. In addition, the raw materials for citric acid are cheaper to buy. So we think it mainly was the choice of our suppliers who could deliver this product cheaper than lactic acid. Nowadays, manufacturers are moving from citric acid to lactic acid. The reason being the sheer fact that they first recommended citric acid and now lactic acid for the same machines now indicates that it does not matter very much in essence.

Will this work on an EC155?

In no uncertain terms, yes, though with caution in doing so. The correct dilution is one dose, (5 doses in bottle) per liter of water. The big worry is whether it removes TOO MUCH scale at once which could cause the internal valves or hoses to clog. If it is already clogged it probably won't work as it has to get through the water circuit to work. If it still does have flow, depending on usage history, amount of minerals in your water and descaling history, (if any) it could blast too much scale loose at once. Depending on the combinations of the variables it would probably be conservative on the dose and do it several times. And when doing so do it slowly and allow a couple of minutes for the solution to steep inside the channels by starting flow, pausing for a couple of minutes, starting flow again , over a course of 12 to 15 minutes. The solution as the machine is designed is meant to flow through the tap valve and not the coffee head. Then rinse with a full container of clean water after descaling

My bottle of ecodecalk came without instructions and i can't find any on the delonghi website.  does anyone know where to find them?

Instructions are on the bottle itself, just peel off the plastic sticker on the side. Each 500 ml Bottle can be used to descale up to 5 times. The numbers on the side of the bottle measures exactly 100ml each. If you can’t open the bottle cap, use a small knife or scissors to cut and remove the white safety ring underneath the green cap. Then press the cap down and twist counter clockwise.

will this work on percolators?

Most likely, However white vinegar works well in percolators since the liquid is re-circulated. This stuff is a one shot through and may be too strong
