Zakuson Gourmet Horseradish with Beets 8.8 Oz

I felt this was the only beets horseradish that's reasonably priced so ordered it and hoped it would arrive safely, and it did. I'm not sure how it gets broken for so many customers, because the jar that I got was covered in bubble wrap which I'm quite certain was packaged by the merchant and not by Amazon because the product barcode was on the outside of the bubble wrap. At any rate, in terms of flavor it's ok but not spicy, like many other reviews mentioned. I figured out a way to give it the horseradish punch it needed. I add equal parts this product + another store bought horseradish (about half a tablespoon of each), and mix them together. The result has the right flavor with a proper horseradish kick, but, and this is important, only if you don't include the watery 'juices' from either jar before you mix the two. I don't know why but if you have liquids when you mix the two together, the result is not at all spicy. I tried mixing a larger batch and keeping it mixed in the fridge, but it loses its spice within a few hours, so my recommendation is to always mix the two products just before you sit down to eat.

We like the red horseradish and this is the best we have tasted. Nice and fresh, excellent product

One of my favorite horseradish, great on beef, pork, or a sandwich. They don't sell this in the local stores near my home. Now, I don't know if this is an Amazon issue or a manufacturer issue, but I found three out of four jars with loose lids and leaking juice. All were bubble-wrapped like there are extra fragile. Wet horseradish bubble wrap is a bit harder to remove. My hope is refrigerating the open-lid jars will prevent spoilage. This issue needs correcting ASAP. 4*13*24 UPDATE the horseradish is spoiled, not edible, and smells bad. DO NOT purchase until they fix the open lid issue during shipping. No reason that happening in 2024.

I have in the past used Gold's Horseradish, but can no longer find them either online or in a local store, I have been searching for a replacement and have finally found it in this Zakuson Gourmet Horseradish with Beets. Delicious, just like the old Gold's. Perfect with Gefilte Fish!!!

Good product. A bit spicier than other brands of red horseradish.

The product did arrive leaking and plastic seal was partially off and I noticed some glass fragments from around top of jar, however this product is wonderful but unfortunately it doesn't ship well it seem to be well sealed up with bubble wrap but must have been mishandled during shipment (no fault of the shipper)(sometimes the post office lets gorillas trample on the mail) the reason I give 5* is because the product itself deserves it (even though I only got to smell it) and also the shipper was kind enough to give me a refund and also very responsive and kind in response to my messages sent to them ,maybe one day there will be a better way to receive this item , because it great and extremely hard to find in a lot of areas , even in local jewish markets!! , thx !!!

Great sauce... just what I wanted and can't find locally anymore

Before purchasing I was confused by how some reviewers said it was too spicy, and others said not enough. I think I know the reason for this discrepancy.The label says it needs refrigeration. It does not say to refrigerate after opening. Mine arrived well bubble wrapped but the jar was slightly loose and some of the juices had leaked out. The plastic protective ring was intact. Now I am an avid maker of fermented foods so why this happened was clear to me. During its previous days at room temperature some fermentation had to have taken place. Some people would be bothered by this but not me. I regularly make sauerkraut and kim chi using purple cabbage and this seemed quite similar. I lived 24 years in the New York area where Jewish friends introduced me to gefilte fish with red beet horseradish, and I became an avid eater of same during those years. I LOVE the nasal passages clearing rush one gets with a good dose of that horse radish! Then in 2001 I moved west and have never ever been able to find beet horseradish since. So I opened the bottle and tasted a spoon of this horseradish. And I got that eye watering nasal clearing rush. I couldn't figure out why some reviewers said it lacked same. Well after that the jar never had that same effect. It became increasingly sweeter and the heat just, well, completely disappeared. I highly suspect that the fermentation process just altered the horseradish heat effect, or complex sugar breakdown heightened the sweetness. In the end I was quite disappointed. I will continue to buy gefilte fish on Amazon, but in the future will use regular horseradish rather that beet horseradish as the garnishing.
