Western Digital Red Pro 4 TB NAS Hard Drive 8 to 16-Bay 3.5-inch SATA
I currently have two NAS devices that hold 4 drives each. The last NAS I acquired only had two 1TB drives in it and I wanted to expand that capacity. Looking over the available drives, I found these 4TB drives that were on the list of recommended drives for my NAS so I ordered them. Here is what I found: 1. The drives were well packed and protected. Even so, they were easy to remove from the packaging. 2. The drives installed easily and were immediately recognized by the NAS and added to system. 3. The drives are quiet and their temperature is only about 3 degrees higher than the 1 TB drives when in heavy use. 4. Drive access is very good and I am pleased with their performance. All in all, I would highly recommend these drives if you have a need for this type of drive. Keep in mind that a NAS drive has higher ratings than a desk top drive and will usually cost more for that performance and reliability.

Great drive, FAST speeds.
These drives are a significant upgrade of the Seagate drives I used previously that would fail if you even looked at them. I have had a few of these for about a year now and they have been rock solid. I just bought 7 more to use in my new NAS. The speed on this drive is great, only thing I could caution is if you are going to be using these in a machine that is within ear shot be careful, they tend to be a little noisy.

WD - NAS Drive Fails, Warranty replacement and Customer Service is Extremely Poor and non-responsive
Purchased the 2 4TB WD Red Pro drives for my QNAP NAS, 1) Drive 1 Failed within 2years and back then they had advanced replacement with a CC hold and this was a decent replacement in good time - Main issue here is the unreliability of the WD RED Pro NAS drives 2) Drive 2 Failed 3 months ago and the Warranty replacement for this has been a nightmare, for advance replacement they now charge $25 non-refundable and you have to pay for postage for shipping the drive to them, alternate was to shipping them the faulty drive and once they receive they will then ship a refurbhised drive to me, its been 2 months and absolutely no response from customer service 3) Main Issues - a) How their top of the line WD RED PRO Drives are so unreliable that twice I lost every thing on my NAS (fortunately I had backed that up) b) Warranty replacements are a big farce with WD they make it extremely painful and they are as unreliable as their Drives no c) There is "Zero" empathy for potential data loss of their customers d) A company that loses its ethics and has "Zero" empathy for their customers, it is only a matter of time before they have to Shut SHOP, the BIG and MIGHTY have fallen when Customer Service has been poor, WD you might be BIG now but the FALL is coming ... I'm switching to another company for all my hard drive needs from here on ... --Prashanth

Use these HDDs when you need your NAS data instantly.
These Red Pro drives are working well in my Synology 214+ NAS in RAID 1 array. They are noisy and run hot but when you want your data from the NAS it is fed to you instantly! These drives are fast and spin at 7200 RPM. The faster the HDDs the more noise and heat. Enclose in a communications closet only with adequate air flow! Make sure they are cooled well! If you want cooler and quieter drives than a 5400 RPM with the NAS power save shut down enabled would be an option (like WD Red HDDs). I have had no sync problems with the relaxed timeout feature of these NAS drives.

Great NAS Drives!
I four of these drive on a WD DL4100. I am very happy with the performance of these drives! They are setup as a RAID 10 environment which are Striped and Mirrored. I often write at about 109 MB Per Second to the NAS. I can pretty much peg the 1gb Switch when writing drives so in essence I really cant go faster than the speed of the LAN. Very Happy with these drives! I highly recommend!

Problem with the box that the drive came in. ...
Problem with the box that the drive came in. Other similar drives I ordered had a manufacturer's label over the flap that had to be torn/cut to open the box. This one did not. The HDD and anti-static bag look new, but I suspect (only suspect) that the drive's refurbished.

I am SUPER disappointed with it
Bought 2 of the drives at same time, both came wrapped properly in OEM style packaging, Placed both in my 5bay NAS at same time, ran for a month and one of them has now crashed on me twice. Of course it happened just after my return date had expired, not I have to try to go through the hassle of getting it replaced by manufacture...For over $200 and to be WD high-end drive that's designed for a NAS. I am SUPER disappointed with it...The other one seems to be fine for now but of course I don't have warm and fuzzies about it since this one didn't even last any significant amount of time, not to mention the second time happening less than 2days after the 1st.......................................................................................................................................................................................................Update, Went through the RMA process, and was promised an upgrade in size of drive, since this is my "first return with WD" their words not mine, The replacement drive came in and it of course is not an upgraded sized hdd, and it is of course refurbished, woops, I mean recertified. hdd. I call the support people back and inquire why they think it is ok for me to have paid full price for a brand new drive, never get to place it in production prior to it failing in just over 1 months time and they send me back a "recertified" drive as if that is good customer service. Essentially I've paid brand new drive price for a used drive. 2ndly Their original certification process is obviously lack luster so why on earth would I have confidence in a "recertified" drive....As if that wasn't bad enough, after the support rep. went to get the manager to escalate my case to him/her and had me on hold for around 5mins or so, she came back with the fact that there were no managers working tonight ;/...I asked her why it felt like I was being given the brush off and she just got quiet on me...She took my info AGAIN for the 2nd or 3rd time and promises the manager will call me tomorrow at a time I chose to discuss the issue. Gotta say, for such a well-known company you all are firing on exactly (0) stars from me right now...from shoddy products that all your posts say you standby 100%, to being lied to by the original RMA support personal, to being given a brush off from the second...I guess companies this large don't really care about the little man that helped make them as large as they are now... We'll see if I get the phone call tomorrow, and maybe some truth would be nice for a change, and practical resolutions. gotta say not too hopeful, but I'm a generally an optimistic kinda guy so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt 1 more time against my better judgement...I'll gladly up their stars and the review if they just do the right thing by me, I'm not being unreasonable, nor asking for anything that wasn't implied by them when I gave them my $$$. Recertified may be a practical solution if I had the drives for any extended period of time, or heck even if I had gotten to use them...This bad boy basically sat on a NAS and hasn't had more that 3Mb stored on it...Thank goodness... .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. Update: So They did have their Cust. Svc. Mgr. call me the next day as promised, He was very helpful with the process, He had already been updated on my issue and what my complaint was and had already sent me out a brand new drive to replace the bad one. He really went a long way in turning my attitude back around and as promised I've upgraded their star count from 1 to 3 now...I'll likely ultimately bring them up to a 4 star level but I want to have the new drive running for a good period of time without failing and/or the 2nd original one that I had not to fail either...The new one has been in for about 3weeks now so again I'm hopefully optimistic, If you don't see any further updates from me and when you are reading this it is past Aug. 2016 then you can safely assume that the replacement and 2nd original are working as expected and concider them a 4star review...If either of them fails prior to that then rest assured there will in all likelihood be another update and the stars taken back off...For now Thank you very much WD....

Excellent Drives for Raid Use
The 4 drives are running in a QNAP Raid 5 array. The installed without any problems and are in service 24/7. Only time will tell if they hold up during their warranty period. I have several Raid arrays and normally use premium drives. This is the first time I've used the Western Digital Red. They are maid for Raid Arrays.

Excellent
Excellent so far. You do hear it turning - I wouldn't put it in a NAS that is near my bed - other than that, no problem what so ever

Also: Kaufempfehlung!

Fast delivery, Well Protected and good price
Fast delivery but the hdd was not in a designed package even if well protected. So the hard drive was able to move in its package, which is not good at all for a HDD. However everythings seems fine until now. And good price. Edit. Package have been improved since my first order. My last two orders were very well protected. So far everythings work well. I recommand !

W. Digital. Sempre affidabile
Brava Amazon
