Q: Where do they get installedin an under sink RO system. What does it help!

This is a check valve installed at the RO outlet to ensure that RO water does not flow back.

Q: I'd like to drain my reverse osmosis system down to my basement into my laundry sink. Could this be installed at the end of the drain tubing?

Yes you can and should use a check valve on your RO waste water when it is connected to a waste line. I've had this one in place on my RO system for about 2 years. There is no change in my TDS reading with or without this valve. It does however prevent waste line back flow into your filtration system. It has a cracking pressure of less than 10 psi. I don't remember the exact number but I did check it when I first installed it. If you are just letting the water run into an open sink then I don't see a need for you to use this. Only if you are connecting to a waste line directly. You can also consider using an air break between your RO waste water and a sink drain.

Q: What is opening pressure for this valve?

I just got two of these delivered and I cant get either to work. A normal water line check valve should open easily in one direction and not the other. I connected 1/4" hose to both sides and tried to blow air through them but they are totally blocked in both directions.

Q: will this work for air?

Theoretically it should, but reality has shown me that it doesn't even work for water.
