What replacement head do you recommend?

I've never seen a replacement head that is even close to the original. Try to replicate the original drum head, as in identical head.

is the body aluminium or some other material?

I'm not sure. It's very lightweight, but also super sturdy (I've dropped it and knocked it over on accident at least 3 times, I'm pretty rough on drums...) I love this drum, the way it sounds, the way it rests on my leg. I highly recommend it But, I'm also a beginner, so who knows.
