Kaytee Chew-Proof Water Bottle for Pet Ferrets and Rabbits, 26 oz

I'm glad I've owned two of these before buying it through Amazon, because the reviews on here are SCARY. People are talking about it falling on their animals, not dispensing water, leaking, etc. I even thought about not repurchasing, because of them, but then I thought to myself, "that's crazy. Go with what YOU know." So I'm here to share my experience with this bottle. I have a five-year-old chinchilla living in a five-tiered wire cage with plastic tiers/bottom. I have the plastic, because he outgrew the curious stage and doesn't nibble/bite on anything (not power cords, not his cage, mainly just books when he's playing and of course his wooden chews inside his cage). Regardless, when I initially bought this, he WAS chewing on plastic, so I wanted something glass that could hang on his old cage, on the outside (I still hang this on the outside, because he does do a lot of jumping around, and I don't want him dislodging it). I don't use anything extra to secure the bottle. I use the coil only, and the bottom part rests in-between the wires. It's never once been knocked down. I had the smaller bottle at first, and it DID have issues dispensing water, but I always mark the water line with new bottles and check back within a few hours to see that it's significantly lower, so I knew right away of the issue. The person at Petsmart suggested the bigger bottle. It didn't have this issue. I could see the bubbles immediately when my chinchilla drank. After about a year, it started leaking. I think this is due to me fiddling too much with the pipe that dispenses the later (the part the animal drinks out of and the part that screws in are separate parts). I got a new one. And that's the one I've had ever since. I clean it with a pipe cleaner regularly and a mild soap/water solution, because the inside of the bottle can get a little gross, even if it's glass. That's precisely the reason I bought him a new bottle. The old one, after a few years, was just a little too gross. And this one works fine as well. So here are my suggestions after years of ownership: 1. Buy the big bottle. 2. Still mark the water line with a sharpie or something to see that it goes down. 3. Clean the inside regularly.

I bought this water bottle to put in our C&C guinea pig cage - we have iron in our water and the plastic bottles discolor quickly so I wanted glass. I also wanted a large one so we would be able to fill it once a day, rather than multiple times per day. This is sturdy - it's really nicely made and I like how it connects to the cage. If you have a C&C cage, it does have to sit a little low in the cage, but a smaller bottle would probably be fine. We also use a brick under ours to absorb the water and keep our guinea pigs nails maintained, we're going to try to find a smaller profile paver in the summer so we have some more room. This does leak water when you first fill it, but if you read the packaging, it explains this and it does stop when the air has built up. I also like the duck inside as a quick visual indicator of the water level. Very happy with this purchase.

I filled below/at max line and this thing leaks non stop and fast from the metal nozzle in two different places. Maybe has a cracked gasket. I just opened it and tried to impress my Guinea pigs because it’s so cute but it’s unless. They would’ve been in standing fast water if I trusted it to work.

I have two guinea pigs that chew through every bottle I've bought. Not really through the whole bottle, but through the silicone ring that holds the steel tube to the bottle. Of course that meant I was in the market for a "chew proof" bottle. I was happy to have found this. The title is quite short and nondescript but it came up in an Amazon search so I clicked and read the description. There is no plastic on the bottle except for a clear silicone ring (gasket) between the glass and the stainless tube. The bottle is huge and while it doesn't state how much it holds I would guess around a quart of water. There is an adorable little yellow duck that floats on top so you can see the water level. The color of the duck is quite pale so it is hard to see from across the room. By the time you are close enough to see the duck you can already see the water level so it's kind of pointless. The glass is thick which is great since I think I could drop it without breaking it. The tube is quite long and the hangers work great. There is a little divot in the top of the bottle to hold the spring to keep it attached at the top. It does attach on the inside of the cage but since there is nothing that a piggie could chew through this is fine with me. I did have an issue with the gasket for the first 4 fill ups. The first time it ended up leaking entirely and soaked the cage. Had to replace all the bedding. I got a little smarter and filled it and set it upright in a large glass to see if it would leak again and surely enough it did. I took the tube off and looked inside and the little silicone gasket had been installed at an angle so that when it was screwed shut it didn't seal. I took a pair of tweezers and pulled it out and reset it and it has not had a leak since. I'm very happy with the bottle now, no problems since the gasket repair. Highly recommended.

I've been though a couple different bottles and this is the only one I'll buy now. It's large enough to go a week easily for a gerbil, maybe longer. Also seems less prone to leaking so long as you don't over tighten the spout. Snug is enough. Glass means longevity and won't scratch up or get cloudy over time. The mount for these are basically fail proof and way better than any double sided tape that fall off, or plastic that break off at the worst time (I had a cheap one break like 2 days before I was getting on a plane). When I fill these I always shake them a few times to "prime" the tube - so the little guys aren't having to struggle with any trapped air holding up the water flow. But yea - glass bottle, metal rack - can't really go wrong.

Honestly, this is kind of hit or miss. I ordered one of these last year and it works beautifully. So, I ordered a second just to make it easier for cleaning purposes, but it leaks constantly and cannot be used.

I ordered this 6 oz. glass bottle to replace the much larger plastic bottle that was included with the Kaytee complete starter kit for guinea pigs and small critters. The problem with the previous bottle hinged primarily on the tinting of the bottle, which made it a pain to determine water levels (this should not be rocket science). I'll admit my vision isn't what it used to be, but it shouldn't be necessary to remove the bottle every day to check out remaining supply. (Thanks a lot, Kaytee.) This bottle is an improvement for several reasons: 1.Glass simply keeps standing water fresher for a longer period of time than plastic. 2. If the volume is no more than 6 oz., it's much easier to add the exact amount of Vitamin C supplement (2 drops per oz.) required by your guinea pig. 3. The smaller capacity encourages more frequent exchange of drinking water, assuring your pet of a full and fresh supply. 4. Remaining water supply is alway visible (a floating duck is added for additional convenience to the pet owner). The bottle is probably not for everyone. Owners who have more than one or two pets will no doubt prefer a larger bottle since a 6 oz. bottle might require refills throughout the day. As usual, Kaytee has overlooked a small but critical detail that would be to the owner's convenience (not to mention the pet's safety). Nowhere on the bottle could I find the volume listed, to remind me of the number of droplets of Vitamin C to add to a full bottle to meet my pet's requirements. If Coke and Pepsi can add this detail to all of their bottles, how can Kaytee overlook such a potentially critical detail? Your pet deserves better. (I had to look up the product once again on Amazon to be reminded of total ounces.) Note: I've discovered that the bottle empties out at unpredictable, inconsistent rates. If I'm feeding Sparky lots of fresh vegetable treats, the level will remain unchanged for up to a week (but be sure to check for a clogged funnel). If I'm out of fresh vegetables, leaving Sparky with nothing but pellets and dry Timothy hay, he's capable of emptying half of the bottle in a single day. At least he's kind enough to let me hear about any change in amenities. In fact, ii's only when he wishes to express displeasure that I hear the "wheeking" that guinea pigs are known for.

It took a little bit of time to find the right way to hang this but it is all worth it. I love that it is glass not plastic. It feel very tough glass. My guinea pig prefers this bottle because the water actually get released efficiently with not too much sucking. I am not worried about my gp not getting enough water. Doesn't leak but also release water good. Unlike other brands where it doesn't leak but my guinea pigs can't have the water out efficiently.

Pero no es angihoteo de repente si goteaba y se le mojaba el aserrín a mi cuicui pero cumple su función para quien tiene un conejo porque si es un poco grande y el embase es muy bueno con el resorte para asegurarlo a la jaula

Already own one and buying another for my ratties. This is one of the only brands they'll drink from. Generally doesn't leak, unless overfilled or when first filled and still equalizing.
