TUG Original Retractable Dog Leash, 16 ft (Medium, Green)

This was my second purchase of the same model. The medium still works well a year later after daily use with a 40lb, 3y/o mixed breed. The retractor has begun to fail after 12 months, which is a similar pattern to the first one I bought, but it has been reliable up to this point. It is also very comfortable to hold, even on half-day outings. Actually, I still have the first one, which is solid despite weak and often ineffectual retraction efforts, just in case I needed an emergency backup. She sometimes tries to carry the end in a cute message for me to hurry up (I use the extension) in her mouth, but it shows no wear. She does not try to chew it, but her teeth are in contact at times and I was worried about fraying. She sometimes walks at the end of the leash when she is in a loose leash mode, occasionally pulling. We are working on that! When using the first one of the two, she would run it out often when still new to us (~1y/o 30#), but that has diminished to almost never with training. Still, the first one also last a year even with that abuse. I will buy a third because the first two kept her safe for two years now and so I trust them. We travel often in a travel trailer and leash laws prevail, having physical backup to oral commands has been reassuring to both me and many around me. Up until it has begin to fail (the last 2' do not retract now), it operated seamlessly and reliable in all kinds of weather for about the same amount of time. I have used a large carabiner to attack a pouch of bags to the narrowest part of the handle and that has been working for over a year. One extension (which as included) also lasted as long as the leash, as did the snap hooks on the ends, and with no failures. I am giving 5 stars because of the continuous reliability in a critical mission. Yes, I wish it lasted two years or five, but this is the only thing I have found to wish was improve and that is not worth subtracting a star. At this point, I am simply considering the leash to be an excellent and proven tool that simply needs annual replacement.

These retractable dog leashes are very good quality and work well for puppies who like to dart a head during walks. They are not good in sand so be careful if taking them to the beach. Sand gets into the leash and makes it stick. Lesson learned. Anywhere else, though, the leash works really well with my dogs. I will buy again.

This was purchased for a 15- 20 lb puppy. It worked great. Just the right size of leash and the handle was very comfortable. It retracted well and held a position when you locked it in. I did by mistake one time grab a hold of the leash when she was running and the material did lightly slice my fingers. So you do have to be careful with that action. The only thing that others may choose to have on their leash is some way to connect a "poop bag". I would highly recommend this leash and buy it again if needed.

We have a 65 lb dog. The first Tug we ordered was 10/29/2025. Loved the design and the way the leash worked. Lately the ratchet system has been catching, locking and making noises. We just ordered another one 8/4/2026 because we really like it, just a great leash. Just wish it would have lasted longer than 9 months.

This is the best retractable dog leash I have ever owned. It is easy to use, stopping the leash’s length at any time or releasing it. It is solid construction and the leash runs smoothly in and out of the base. My favorite item was the bonus extender piece to use for dogs that chew on it, saving you from having to get a whole new leash! Thank you for the forethought!

This was exactly what I wanted and expected. I had ordered another leash that broke in 3 places in the first day I used it. Was able to return it and I ordered yours. I loved the extra short leash to attach that is stronger and is perfect for training on a "heal". Great product and would recommend this! Lyn

Works well, smooth, extending and retracting easy to lock and unlock. Unfortunately, I had to return it. My pup passed away exactly one month after purchasing and I don’t know anyone else with the dog otherwise I would’ve gifted it.

Typically lasts me 3-4 years per with 70+ LB dogs who are very exciteable. The edges of the actual leash will fray and get worse if you don't snip what's frayed off. Other than that it's very durable, lasts a long time even if you put it through Hell and back. My current one has a huge chunk of the actual leash missing where it looks like it may rip entirely, but even then it still stays strong. My current one has tons of scars, scratches, scrapes, etc, still going good. I'm getting a second one for my adult, and the old one is going to the new pup. As long as you learn how to handle a leash like this vs a regular lead, it can be a great boon.

It’s only been a few days with it, but I love this leash! It’s got a nice aesthetic, very sleek and comfortable to use. I also really appreciate the free gift of a sturdy extension for chewers. I’ve got a five month old Shiba and the chewing extension gives me peace of mind when we’re walking. My Shiba has ran out and yanked the leash multiple times, but so far we’ve had no issues. It seems very durable.
