Works as intended. Great entry level unit.
Works as intended. It's a bare bones system that simply plays your media, but is a step above playing movies on the PS5, which is limited to what file formats it can play. A lot of media is encoded in such a way that should play on the PS5 but does not. This media player solves that issue, and allows the use of subtitles which, again, the PS5 is incapable of playing. This is a great entry level unit that is so easy to use that there's no need to read the manual. The remote control works without a hitch. I have no complaints about this player. It will suffice until I upgrade.

This is the one!!!!
I play music videos in my car and this is my 3rd HD media player. The key function for me was auto start & random looping... to be clear, I wanted True random, meaning it plays each video randomly once in the playlist until all have been played, then restarts. The other two top rated units I bought had "random" but neither unit had true random as the simple algorithm could mean a video was repeated, which was annoying. I emailed neumi to confirm this and they advised it was indeed "true random" On receipt, I actually tested it by placing 12 videos on a usb drive in the root menu and they played randomly once, before all 12 were Played and then it Restarted. So I am very happy, also the auto start feature (I start my car and the video plays instantly) works very well and quickly...No splash screen. All in all, this ticks all the boxes

Great little box for playing media.
This was my first purchase of this kind of device. So my first issue was trying to put batteries into the remote when I first took it out of the box. Thinking the panel should open up further ended with me snapping the panel off. I could still put it back on, but I'd have to try not to slide the battery panel off with my hand when I'm holding it. So I opted to just not putting the panel back on. Definitely my fault, but could have been designed better. The interface is pretty simple and to the point in what kind of media you'd want to be playing. Listed my video files with a basic file list. Even with it full of video files, it handled playing media off a Sandisk 512GB USB stick pretty quick. (https://a.co/d/67lhvGy) I'd watch stuff during my lunch break and stop the video when my break ended. While it wasn't too big of an issue, my place in the video would only be remembered for one file at a time. So if I wanted to watch something new, my stopping point at another video would be forgotten. I was pretty content with how the box was working for a while. Then over time of me plugging it in, unplugging and disconnecting it from the TV, and then putting it in my locker, the power plug started having an issue. The power port felt loose and the plug wiggled just a tiny bit, where the device wouldn't power on unless I kept tension on the cord to pull it downward. Sometimes it was if the plug wasn't turned inside the device. I managed with this new "quirk" for a while until recently it just wouldn't power up at all anymore. Since it wasn't working, I took off the cover to see if I could find the issue internally. I couldn't see any loose soldering or anything that would look like the plug could be fixed. It was a decent media player for the few months I had it, but I would caution people to be careful with the power adapter to not put too much force side-to-side on it when it's plugged in.

A truly excellent 4K Digital Media Player
Some time ago I bought an Atom 4K (Version 1) and I have just bought Version 2. This new one ─V2─ has got a very useful feature for those who want to watch original films in foreign languages or even learn the language. It is possible to change Colors to see properly and enlarge font sizes. From apart these features mentioned above I have to say the quality of both audio and video is truly outstanding, an excellent 4K Digital Media player. If you need help NEUMI will tell you what to do without any delay, prompt answers.

Outstanding Performance – Exceeded My Expectations! I recently purchased the Neumi Atom 4K Ultra HD, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best electronics purchases I’ve made on Amazon. The picture quality is absolutely stunning. The 4K output is incredibly sharp, with excellent detail, vibrant yet natural colors, and impressive contrast. Even Full HD content is upscaled beautifully, looking clean and refined. You can clearly tell that the video processing is high quality. Audio performance is just as impressive. It supports advanced formats and delivers rich, well-balanced sound, whether connected to a full home theater system or a simpler setup. I experienced no audio/video sync issues at all. Setup was quick and effortless — plug it in, configure a few settings, and it’s ready to go within minutes. The interface is smooth, intuitive, and responsive. The remote is simple but effective and works reliably without any lag. Another strong point is the build quality: compact, solid, and sleek design. It doesn’t overheat and runs consistently even after extended use. In short: ✔ Excellent 4K image quality ✔ Great upscaling performance ✔ High-quality audio support ✔ Easy setup and user-friendly interface ✔ Fantastic value for the price Highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable, high-performing 4K player without unnecessary complications. I would definitely buy it again.

Dangerous, very good chance to destroy your external USB hard drives. - October Feb 18, 2025
Newest revision October 18, 2025. I feel bad I had to re-write my review of the Neumi. I already issued an alarm regarding that this player does not eject the drives properly. Then I rated it 4 stars because it does play the 4K videos well... Until last night, when I was going to review 4 of my 2TB Western Digital hard drives. This time, It was able to read the first one and plays videos well... until I stopped and turn it off, waited a few minutes and remove the hard drive. That was enought to KILL/Bricked the 2TB drive. It cannot be accessed/erased/reformatted/repartitioned in Windows 10, Windows 11, Ubuntu 20, 22 and 24, using Disk Management/diskpart/sfc /scannow/etc... I tried everything. It is dead as a door nail. So, this Neumi player is now declared by me as DANGEROUS. Use it at your own risk of loosing your drives. Now rated 1 star (should be Zero star and removed from the market place.) Below is a revision of what I wrote when reviewing the Neumi Atom 4K player. Today, I would like to revise "The Bad:" (see below...) After reaching out to tech support of Neumi, I was advised that one should wait a few minutes before removing the USB hard drives after turning the Neumi off, which I do now. This turn out to be true, and this may help. However, I have tried again, and still feel nervous because although the Neumi is off, the USB drives still flash, or if not flashing the LED is still on. To be fair to Neumi, I think the Neumi Atom 4K player is safe for the USB hard drives. Mine are all 2TB, and this may not applicable to larger size drives. Still, be warned, if you experience hard drive problems with a Mac computer after playing them with the Neumi, the drive can be "rescanned" by a Windows computer and it will be fine. The BAD: The 2 Neumi I bought do not eject the external hard drives connected to the USB connector correctly when they are turned off after playing, The drives are OK with the Neumi, but unreadable on Mac or PC computers when removed from the Neumi. PC can "fix" ths problem, but it needs to be fixed. This problem is important to be corrected because it is the same as just unplugging the drives without first ejecting them. When turning off the Neumi, I saw only one time that it has a "Turn Off" option. Many other times, it just turn off, and the hard drives go bad. I am lucky this can be "fixed." This is dangerous. I decided to keep both and hopefully will figuring out how to properly eject the drives before moving them to other computers. I gave this 4 stars. It is a very cheap player that can play 4K movies very well, just what I need.

Awesome product - but with some really annoying flaws
An amazingly convenient gadget with a lot of technology for the price. I love how I can digitize my entire movie collection and put it on a small hard drive and take it with me when traveling, especially in the RV. I've not had any problems playing my AV files from either the MicroSD card or the external 1TB SSD drive that I use. I have two complaints that I wish they'd address: The remote is terrible. They go for the "Apple" style minimalism which sometimes makes figuring out how to things confusing. The remote hardware is the most sensitive (insensitive?) I have ever seen. You have to point it DIRECTLY at the box for it to work - and don't get too far away either. Fast Forward is absolutely maddening. Either it moves ahead WAAAY too fast, or it keeps fighting itself with a two-steps-forward-one-step back behavior that will make you want to throw it out the window. We use Closed Captions/Subtitles a lot. This has a truly poor implementation of the standards (15 years ago, my job was writing the software for CC interpretation and display). The CC looks terrible and I can't figure out why. Sometimes it's dark yellow with a yellow border which is gag-inducing and hard to read. Other times it's somewhat normal. To turn CC ON you set the setting to OFF which makes no sense. It ignore the standard requirements to time-out after a certain amount of time, sometimes leaving the last thing spoken on the screen for minutes. It also seems to ignore the "clear" command which also leads to text being left on the screen far longer than it's supposed to. The UI isn't great, but not nearly as bad as other reviewers complained - at least it's high-resolution even if it's not always intuitive. Summary - This product is SOOO close to being amazing! The media player technology is great. The usefulness in being able to have portable libraries of videos that can be attached to any HDMI TV is fantastic... it just has some really poor software implementations of CC, odd UI, and a lousy remote. I want to love it, but they've still got some work to do. 5-stars in potential and coolness and reasonable price. 3-stars in real-world implementation until they fix the CC and fast-forward.

Great For What It Was Made For
I purchased this device open box, as new. I expect it was returned because the person got it as a gift from someone who didn't understand what a media player does when they gifted it, or by someone who thought it did things it cannot do. These simple media players do not connect to the internet. They are not a Roku, or a Firestick. They were created to play media files you created with a camera or computer, or downloaded from the internet. Android TV boxes can do the same things and also connect to the internet, and I've recently used them to play video files, but I think the NEUMI Atom 4K has better capabilities as far as which files it can play, and it can read a larger USB drive. I have one particular MKV file that is always a problem, even with other media players I have, and the NEUMI had no problem with it. I have not tried it with photos or music at this point, but expect I'll have no issues with it. The on screen menu you get when you press the menu button changes according to the kind of file you are using, by the way. The remote is a simple one...uncluttered and easy to figure out. The buttons fell solid, and are not mushy when you press them. I thought I read a review critical of the interface you see on the screen, but there isn't much you can do to make it more high tech when only thing the machine does is to find, open, and play various media files. This media player is very small, yet it has 2 USB ports, an HDMI connection (cable not included, which was not a problem in my case), a slot for SD cards, and an audio/video out jack for RCA jack connections for older TVs. It also includes the RCA connector cable. For what I purchased it for, this model of the NEUMI is perfect...and the same should be true for anyone who knows what this media player can and can't do.

Neumi Atom 4K. Tiny but capable.
Cons: when powered up, it doesn't turn on your receiver and/or TV automatically. I did try different cables and a firmware update. Pros: it has played every video in every format with great picture quality and sound (set to pass-through) as well as recognized and listed every subtitle available. Tip: it takes a LONG time for firmware to install, don't turn it off, just wait.

Works well
Smooth playback for 4k mkv movies and mp3 files. Picture quality seems better and audio strength, especially surround, stronger than my andriod media box. The kind of media player I've been looking for.
