Vastly improved over previous models. Outstanding for the price.
We had a previous generation non mapping E model for our hard floors downstairs and a precuous generation I model with the bag dock upstairs for the carpeted floors. Both were extremely needy robots. The E model got stuck pretty much every other clean, but it was nothing compared to the maintenance nightmare of the I series model. I was constantly clearing dust out of the bin, as the slightest film would cause the optical bin sensors to declare that the bin was full after every single clean. The bins on both models were too small, the charging contacts needed regular maintenance and overall I felt I was doing more work to keep the robots happy than they were. The E series was declared dead when it found a mess our new puppy had made before we did, and the I series finally just stopped working. I mention this backstory because if you've only had experience with the older E and I series, you may appreciate these new models as much as I have. Credit where credit is due, iRobot put a lot of improvements into these new models. First, the bins are huge. Like a third of the entire robot is bin space. You can let it go a couple of days without having to worry about emptying it. Or get the bagging dock. (I didnt.) Next, these use one brush instead of two, which means less parts to replace...but amazingly, the single brush does a MUCH better job than the old models with two. iRobot claims improved suction and I believe it. They're quieter. You still know it's running, but it's nowhere near as loud as the old models. Much appreciated. The little on board brush and thread/hair cutter tool. It rides on the bin and is super handy for clearing the filter screen and cutting hair or thread off the brush roller. Speaking of the filter, this is a massive improvement. They've placed the paper filter behind a mesh screen which keeps the majority of larger particles from clogging up the filter. Brilliant. And you can brush the screen right off into the trash. The lidar mapping is really good. A mapping run takes just minutes. Once mapped, it will happily clean in perfect rows. The charging contacts are also a huge improvement. No longer small rectangles, the points on the robot are long strips for easier docking and less cleaning since there is far more contact area. And the dock has been downsized to a small, unobtrusive box. I took a chance on this base model because it was relatively inexpensive. It worked so well on our hard floors downstairs, I bought a second one for the carpeted upstairs and it works just as well. Really surprised and happy with all the meaningful improvements made. Note that old E and I series models will not work with the old iRobot app. You have to use the new app. And this is where I have to ding iRobot. The new app is less intuitive than the old one. You'll figure it out, but it blurs the separation between routines and automation- which will no doubt be confusing to some. Editing routines is kind of buried in the app and it's just not super user friendly after the initial set u. For instance it only uses 24 hour time for scheduling cleaning jobs. Which, ok, but that's definitely going to confuse some people. Aside from the less than user friendly app, these are excellent robot vacuums- especially considering the price point. Highly recommend.

ImpressiveโAre Roombas Making a Comeback?
I originally bought this as a replacement for my Roborock Q5, but I may end up getting another one to replace my six-year-old bump-and-go vacuum. The price is similar to a Eufy bump-and-go model, which was my first robot vacuum, but this one is on another level. With LIDAR and mapping, it feels much more advancedโcloser to the performance of my Q5, which I recently gave to my mom. This is my third robot vacuum, and each experience has been completely different. One surprise was the battery lifeโit couldnโt vacuum my entire house on a single charge, while my Q5 seems to last twice as long. Then again, the Q5 is nearly twice the price, so maybe it's not fair to say the battery is bad. If you're coming from a higher-end vacuum, though, you might feel the difference. One feature I really liked is that itโs available without a mop, which, like many brands, increases the dustbin size. Without the water tank, the extra space is used for a larger bin, making it a great trade-off. I also noticed it climbs over floor transition strips better than my previous vacuums. However, it doesnโt perform as well on carpet, so thereโs a bit of a trade-off. Another thoughtful design choice is the side brushโit simply pops off instead of being screwed on. One of my older vacuums had a screw-in side brush that damaged cables, so I appreciate this safer design. Another clever addition is the flap that acts as a backpressure valveโit prevents dust from escaping when you remove the bin for emptying. No more accidental messes on the way to the trash! Some reviews complain about the app, but I think it feels very similar to Roborock's app, which Iโm used to. If youโve set up a Roborock before, youโll likely find it familiar. The first thing the app asks is the "Name" of your Roomba, and I couldnโt help but smileโitโs such classic American culture to name your robot vacuum something special. One minor gripe: the QR code is on the box instead of the robot, but since setup is a one-time thing, it's not a huge deal. My only real complaint? You canโt change the dustbin while itโs charging because the bin compartment sits right under the charging mechanism. Overall, Iโm really happy with my purchase. The quality and performance were exactly what I expectedโmaybe even better, considering this vacuum costs the same as my first one but comes with advanced features like LIDAR mapping

A pretty good vacuum for the money, it has some issues but they aren't deal breakers.
Years ago I tried a few different robot vacuums. They worked OK, but seemed to have some issue so I waited a bit before buying a new one. I bought this one to help tackle a flea infestation and keep the rooms vacuumed on a schedule. The app is relatively easy to use and put the robot on a schedule. It is easy to create the map, but not very easy to edit it. You're able to put in keep out zones, but it isn't very easy to do on a phone. They could have picked a better interface for it. It is doable and worthwhile to do if you have spots you don't want it to go. It does a pretty good job overall as long as you pick up anything bigger than a nickel. Anything bigger than that, or plastic wrapping, it will find it and get it stuck in the brush. It won't know it is there blocking the whole vacuum function and will happily continue its routine without picking up anything. It does a relatively good job of seeing and avoiding large things that are higher than it is, but still somehow can't see chair legs and will bounce off of them multiple times with its bumper as it tries to navigate your dining room until it finally finds it's way through. The dust bin includes a brush and hair remover attached to it so that you can clean the filter out some, and cut any hair tangled around the brush. The brush is easily removed from the vacuum if you need to pull it out to clean it. The bin isn't very well placed IMO, if you want to empty it while it is on the charger, you have to take it off the charger because the bin is where the charge ports are. It isn't quiet, but it isn't super loud either. You won't really hear it if it is a room or two away. It does a pretty good job for the money if you're not going to vacuum every day yourself.

The right amount of robot
Our floors are much cleaner now that we run this machine every few days. Because we have it, we are mindful of cords, cat toys and other items on the floor that could tangle it up, so its presence also kind of enforces a level of tidiness. This machine does not learn quickly, it is not using satellites and cameras to map the shifting topography of our home, and I am happy with that. What it does is wander from room to room in an apparently random fashion, and it always finds dirt. It eventually seems to go over the entire floor. We have two cats who find it loud and unpleasant, but also fascinating. They stalk it from covert locations, calculating the balance of the predator/prey relationship. Someday, they may attack it, but if that happens, I think the Roomba will survive. Cons: Somewhat loud - It is as loud as a normal vacuum cleaner Needs supervision - It can't be left running home alone, because it gets stuck under furniture from time to time. It sometimes makes mistakes that could endanger its life. I block it from entering areas where it could fall off of a cliff, because in spite of the cliff detection feature, I think it might very well fall off a cliff if given the chance. Only one phone allowed - The phone app seems to allow for only one phone per user, so only one member of the household can command the vacuum from the phone app; not a big deal for me because I just push the button on the top of the Roomba and it takes off. Pros: It vacuums the house frequently. I am never going to do that. It has the work quality of maybe a ten year old who was asked to vacuum the house--but unlike a ten year old, it is persistent. The suction is good, it gets diirt out of deep rugs and it does well in the corners. It is able to get over thresholds and it is fine around our cat dishes- pushes them a little bit but then backs away.

Excellent little vacuum
I think this is the simplest Roomba vacuum they make, and it suits me perfectly. Small docking station I can tuck under a bench - this vacuum is efficient, quiet, and requires minimal upkeep. Just dump the dust bin after each use. The amount of debris the vacuum picks up in impressive. Love this little vacuum

โฆ canNOT compete with the ROBOROCK brand
A few years ago, I bought a low end model ROBOROCK during an Amazon sales day just as a first time experiment to see if robotic cleaners were something for us. We figured we could upgrade to the Roomba if we liked the Roborock. We like having one. So in July of this year, I bought the 600 series iRobot โ SUPPOSEDLY the superior and original model. Glad I got both for comparison! The iRobot overall has proven to be a failed experiment. After all of the hype, we never saw that coming. The ROOMBA simply canNOT navigate our single step down into our great room. We cannot use it on the higher level surface unless we stack chairs along the drop off into the great room โฆ. We need a total of four chairs staked against the drop off so that the Roomba hits the legs and does not feel stuck โon the edge of a cliff. โ Yes. This is the message it sends to my cell - lovely to know someone installed a mini Grand Canyon indoors when we werenโt looking! The eye to sense a drop off has not EVER worked right out of the box. I interpret this as faulty design. Meanwhile, the Robo rock is smart as a whip and knows that there is a drop there; it runs up to the edge, senses the drop off, and backs off 100% of the time. This frees up me as a homeowner to attend to other tasks - the whole purpose behind buying a robotic floor cleaner ! With the ROBOROCK, there are NO annoying texts and NO unit failure messages. It just goes and does its job!!! In addition, the ROOMBA has trouble seating itself on the base/ charging unit, even though I have it clear of surrounding encumbrances as required. Often, it canโt seem to find it at all. At times, the ROOMBA sticks itself in a blank corner with nothing around it spinning in endless circles. I then have to go pick it up and set it right in front of the base unit so it can find it. Iโve even cleaned all the heads several times, moved it to different outlets and locations, and done everything to make sure that all the magnetic & radio signals are working just fine. Itโs just reaching its six month anniversary with me and all I can say is, Iโm glad I got it during a sales day and didnโt spend the full amount on it! It does seem that the iRobot May clean carpet slightly better? โฆ just a guess - but itโs easy enough to run the Robo rock twice or run a vacuum over it first if needs warrant - which should be done anyway once in a while. The other convenience behind the ROBOROCK is that the ROBOROCK has cleanable filters. Whereas the ROOMBA requires the buyers to keep buying new filters. Again, NO TIME SAVED there. Only aggravation and more money invested into an already substandard unit. Canโt imagine ever buying another IRobot product !!!! Itโs a needy little sucker !

Save yourself the trouble: DONโT BUY IT
Update: after several hours on chat and tech support through the phone, they are sending me a new one. Stay tuned. Nothing but trouble. I thought this was supposed to make cleaning easier, not more difficult. I have it run through my apartment (550 sq ft) twice a week. It continues to get itself stuck in odd places. Sometimes my fault for for an errant sock or a charger cable, but the majority of events is device error. One of the wheels seems to be moving slower, and when I went through trouble shooting on chat with Roomba, the other wheel started turning slowly making it worse! And the dust bin sensor stopped working after I followed their advice. Now it wonโt work at all. 3 months and itโs a paper weight. Don't waste your money on this waste of semiconductors. Thereโs no durability and the design sucks.

Tips if you're thinking about a Roomba (updated)
Here are a few tips if you're thinking about getting a Roomba (which you should!) 1. Wait until Prime Day or an equivalent sale. I bought this model for $220 (tax included). If you live in the Seattle area, watch out for the Amazon deals - Amazon vans will park random places for one day only to offload products at a steep discount. The Roomba is a regular for that rotation - I've seen this model sold for $140. 2. Do not buy cheap knockoff versions for replacement parts on Amazon. Buy only iRobot products (from them directly if possible). There are a lot of versions of fake products from Chinese companies sold on Amazon. These parts are crappy and could impact the performance / lifetime of your Roomba. One example of that is the replacement air filters. The cheaper versions do not seal correctly, so dust gets into the small cracks and other mechanisms within the machine. Replacing your vaccum will cost a lot more than a $10 air filter. 3. Clean your air filter with a toothbrush after each use to reduce the clog of dust. Replace the filter every 3 months. 4. Do a deep cleaning of your Roomba every 6 months. Use a mini flathead and a small phillips to take off the front cover (you'll need to take off the small, yellow spinning brush first using the small flathead). Be careful because the threads of the tiny screw are mounted in plastic casing. Very easy to strip. Clean out all the hair around the small screw that attaches the spinning brush (after 6 months, this can cause the brush to stop spinning - 90% of the time, it's just hair - side note - this motor is also replacable for only $15 on the iRobot website). I've noticed a fair amount of negative reviews discussing the shelf life of Roombas. People are making comments like "My cats killed our Roomba" etc. I'd like to set the record straight for this awesome company. Basically, in life, you can't get things for free. You can't expect your car, for instance, to function well over time without regular maintainence. Most people hate car maintanance, so it has become widely accepted for most people to pay someone to fix / clean their car. And, for most people this makes a lot of sense. We'd rather spend our time doing other things besides changing the oil, checking the tires, checking the radiator, maintaining the engine and so on. For vaccums, the mechanics are much less complex than a car. However, they still incur a ton of wear and tear like dirt, cat hair, female hair, dust, and eveything else that lands on the floor. Over time, even the best vaccum will break or need repairs if it is not well maintained. In the old days, we had vaccum repair shops because people hated working on their vaccums. Then, everything possible became automated and outsourced. We could have Roomba repair shops that cost $30 to do a tune up of your Roomba. People would probably pay it. But, rest assured, the same people complaining about paying for that would be the same people who complained about the amazing Roomba - the vaccum that does its job with very little work from the human. The only thing is doesn't do well is clean itself. What we need is a cat Roomba. My closing thought is this one. Spend one hour every three months maintaining your Roomba, and you will save yourself 50+ hours a year (a whole work week) of vaccuming. That's very simple math, but it will require some effort on the part of the human. I purchased mine on Prime Day 8 months ago. I did my first deep clean (along with the regular air filter cleaning with each use) and she is gently purring like the first day I discovered her :-). I do not own securities in iRobot or work for them. This review is completely of my own writing.

Had one of the first roombas, got this one as a Christmas gift to myself
So far I have to keep walking this one back to it's base. Also it is not communicating too well with Alexa which is why I originally bought it . .. IMPROVEMENT is needed on this model ... It is early in my learning though ... As for keeping the floor very clean ... Its excellent ๐ Update : since learning more ... I would highly recommend this Roomba model ... It keeps my floors exceptionally clean picking up even the finest pet dander ... It works well via the Alexa app ... Only downside is I don't think this model maps ... but you can set jobs in the app. It also goes back to its base on its own now ๐ My next purchase will be a MOP & VAC ...

Very Good Cleaning,Good Results,
Hello; I waited just over 6 months to write a review as I bought one 10 years ago and wanted to compare results, I must say after 6+ months I'm still very happy with IRobot Roomba, my old one doesn't have Wifi and I barely use the Wifi on this one. In my opinion it does a very good job of vacuuming carpets, ceramics, wood floors, what I miss is my older one has handle that I can grab to carry it to change locations, this one doesn't. No one can guarantee you how long a product like this will last yet I have had my older one over 10 yrs, cleaning it is simple quick & easy and a must, I had bought a competitors and wasn't pleased with it at all due to poor suction, yet Irobot I'm very satisfied with this product & model.
