In this mystery in the bestselling Cat Who series, thereโs something rotten in the small town of Pickaxโat least to the sensitive noses of newspaperman Jim Qwilleran and his Siamese cats Koko and Yum Yum. An accident has claimed the life of the local paperโs eccentric publisher, but to Qwilleran and his feline friends it smells like murder. They soon sniff out a shocking secret, but Kokoโs snooping into an unusual edition of Shakespeare may prove CATastrophic... because somewhere in Pickax, a lady loves not wisely but too well, a widow is scandalously merry, and a stranger has a lean and hungry look. The stage is set for Qwilleran, Koko, Yum Yum, and the second act of murder most meow... Review: Good read, if you like cozy mysteries. - The Cat who...mysteries are a good read on a cold, gloomy day. Or when you need a distraction from current events. No profanity nor vivid descriptions of intimacy. Now a days, these types of books seem very rare. I have all 30 Book of the cat who series. However, book 29 and especially book 30, doesn't read like Lilian had written them. They don't have the same "voice." Seems like a ghost writer had written them. There's no love of the characters nor the locations this series was set in. It had central characters' actions not aligning with prior behaviors. Also, it's a sad ending. I do know there was another book she was going to write, but she passed away before she could write. I do know that problems with the last couple of books may be attributed to her having had a stroke. I still enjoy reading and rereading these books. Review: Great Story! - Out of all of the Cat Who series, this may be my favorite one. So much occurred in the story. I found myself laughing out loud some, sad at times, and angry with the murderer. Yet still I was surprised when I found out who the murderer was. Reading the Cat Who series leaves me wishing I could live in a similar town. I've read many cozy mysteries over the years and frequently felt that the author was trying very hard to be a cozy writer. Lillian Jackson Braun is not trying. She is a true cozy writer. I highly recommend her series.

Good Old Fashioned Mystery
I discovered "The Cat Who" books by Lillian Jackson Braun sometime ago. I love them because they are simple, old fashioned stories. I am now reading the books I missed, starting with the first published book in the series. I usually read them on my Kindle, or listen on Audible. Some of the books are only available in print, not digitally. It was so easy to order on Amazon, and I have enjoyed following the story of Jim Qwilleran from the beginning. These books were written sometime ago and so do not include cell phones, etc. The murders that take place are without the gore of today's murder mysteries. I can speculate who did it, but it is never apparent until the end of the story. A great relaxing read!

Koko knows
I love all the "cat who" books! So much fun! Great characters and well plotted. I read them in one or two sittings because they keep my interest even on multiple readings. I have trouble putting them down.

Danger stalks the charming residents of Pickaxe
Thereโs certainly a lot of excitement, action, close calls, and actual death in this seventh book of The Cat Who โฆ series. The people of the town of Pickaxe (400 miles north of everywhere) and the surrounding area are always entertaining. And Jim Qwilleranโs Siamese cats, Koko and Yum-Yum, eagerly add their antics to the mix. But, in addition to all this, some serious threats are hanging over some of the residents of Pickaxe. There are two mysterious strangers around town, two mysterious automobile deaths, two local landmarks destroyed by fire (one of them is Qwilleranโs own inheritance, the Klingenschoen mansion, just days after its grand opening as a museum), and generally suspicious activity on the part of a lot of people. And then there is the most feared, most obviously threatening weather event โ the Big One โ the snow that every year heralds the start of Pickaxeโs winter season, during which they will be cut off from the rest of the world until the spring thaw, or something like that. Every day, the radio predicts snow. And every day there isnโt any. Until Qwilleran is invited to Polly Duncanโs cottage in the country for dinner. And then, suddenly, there is a blinding blizzard. Only Koko seems to know in advance what is coming up. He tries to communicate by pushing volumes of an antique complete set of Shakespeare off the shelves in the library. The titles seem to resonate with the upcoming disasters. And his record of predictions is better than the WPKX weathermanโs. Now, if only Qwill could decipher with any certainty what disaster Koko is predicting. It turns out that some of the current mysterious activities are tied to things that happened in the past. And Qwilleranโs interviews with the townโs old timers as part of an oral history project, part of his research for the book he is supposedly writing, provide some of the connections needed to explain some of these actions. But sadly, not in time to prevent any of them.

Pivotal to the Series - Only One Not on Kindle
WHY IS THIS NOT ON KINDLE??? This is the 7th book in the Cat Who series and it is an important one. It changes the direction of the series, and introduces key characters for the balance of the series. The series is very light mystery and full of recurring characters, many of whom are introduced in this 7th book and remain for the balance of the 29 books. The character development is excellent and the cats are a lot of fun. Ms. Braun understands cats and their behavior, so cat lovers will enjoy the series, but light mystery readers will also enjoy the series. The series is fun to read. I have enjoyed the series in paperback, audiobook, and Kindle. The series is best read in order. I have begged the publisher since December 2010 to issue this book on Kindle, and it looks like it may finally get there. As of this writing, there is a Kindle listing, but pricing in unavailable. I will be buying it as soon as the price is available. As I said earlier, it is very important to advancing the series.

Love the intelligence
I love Qwill's relationship with the cats. He treats them like the sentient beings they are. I didn't like Qwill's almost indifference to the deaths of his friends and acquaintances.

The cat who... Lilian Jackson Braun
Li sto leggendo tutti, sono arrivata a metร della serie "The cat who" (circa 30 volumetti) e devo confermare che i racconti sono tutti divertenti e ben scritti, ottimi per un primo approccio alla lettura in lingua inglese.

Yes, Lilian Jackson Braun.
Another engrossing story line - another surprise ending. I see that LJB wrote about thirty books ๐. I am in for the long haul.
