Edit: contrary to what I say below, a flashing number on display indicates a reading at same value as last swing. E.g. two readings of 80mph in a row… After two months of use, I can say that this is hands-down the best golf training aid I have ever purchased, and probably the best $110 I have spent in over four decades playing this silly game. I have seen a dramatic increase in my swing speed for almost all my clubs, with a significant improvement in both distance and trajectory at range practice and on the course. First off, this thing is incredibly easy to use. Turn it on, verify it is in correct mode, and swing away. If it gets enough data to process, it will instantly display your swing speed. If not, you will see your last valid speed flashing. The unit will automatically turn itself off after several minutes of inactivity. I have not changed the batteries yet, so power consumption appears very good. Now for the results. When I first purchased, I spent the afternoon at my home hitting station (a home-built frame with a net and a mat) baselining all my clubs PW through driver. My initial numbers were... less than impressive. My PW was in the mid 60s. My 7i was low-to-mid 70s. Ouch. Driver was mid 80s. I have no idea whether these are accurate speeds, as I have not compared against a Trackman or other high-end launch monitor. However, given a little internet research, my known distances seemed to match the numbers I was getting, e.g. 135-140 yards for 7i. My game distances should have given me a clue, but it was still a kick in the front of my pants to see these kind of numbers. So I spent the next several weeks experimenting with different aspects of my swing... relaxed grip, wide full backswing, coil against stable lower body, feeling club load at the top, improved timing of weight shift through transition, etc. I saw incremental improvement. My most recent numbers are vastly improved, in some cases 25% or more. My PW is now registering an average 80mph. My 7i average is now high 80s, and will sometimes stay in the 90+ range for extended periods when I am hitting well. I will reiterate that these may not be absolute numbers, but I believe they are a good relative indicator of progress. I am far from perfect, and will sometimes see my speeds regress significantly. But never to the point that they were, and I am always able to recover to my averages by systematically working through the checklist of things I believe through trial-and-error are contributing to higher club head speed. One thing I noticed: I seemed to get a dramatic increase in speed (10% or more) almost instantly at some point during my swing evolution with each of my clubs, but at different times. My theory is that that is where I was able to improve my technique to the point where I was able to get each shaft past its working threshold, where it was finally able to really contribute to my swing speed. Until then, I might as well have been swinging a lead pipe for all the help I got from the shaft. Just a theory. The one exception to my success story has been my driver, where I still feel I am unable to isolate key factors to help me improve. My average has risen to 92, so still close to a 10% increase. Just not what I believe I am really capable of, and seemingly very low relative to my iron numbers. Oh well. Something to continue working on. Maybe I just haven't gotten to the point where I am working the shaft. On the range and course, my distances have gone up significantly, and my trajectories are far more piercing than the symmetrical ballistic arcs I used to hit. If anything, my accuracy has improved. So no downside that I can see. For consistency and apples-to-apples comparisons from one day to the next, be sure to set the unit up the same way every time. I set it up at a 45 degree angle to target line, directly opposite and 10" outside of the ball. I seem to get larger/smaller numbers if I move the unit significantly closer to or further away from the ball. You will occasionally get a flashing display after a swing, which means the unit knew a swing event occurred, but did not have enough data to process into a swing speed. This happens to me about 10-15% of the time. More than I would like, but a small price to pay for such technology in a very affordable unit. I rarely see what I consider to be rogue numbers that others have mentioned. E.g. a 158 for a driver, or something else obviously incorrect. Even the highest (and lowest) numbers I see are well within the realm of possibility. Still, I typically take 12-14 swings when I am capturing averages, and throw out the highest and lowest one or two to get an even 10 swings. Not sure if my results are typical. I am in good shape and very flexible for my age, but have struggled with horrid mechanics. So I may just be in the small population that can most benefit from the type of empirical feedback that a tool like this provides. If you already have a fairly sound swing, you may already be tapping more of your potential, and will likely not see the same improvement.

I've been playing this silly game for decades and up to now the only feedback I could get (besides a teacher watching my swing) is how far does the ball go on the range or course. I know that hitting it farther depends on solid contact and club head speed. This product gives you an accurate assessment of the latter. In the first two weeks I had it, my results were pretty dismal, 85-89 mph. I have a relatively low handicap so not a duffer by any means and these results were discouraging as I had imagined by speed was somewhere in the high 90's. But hitting whiffle balls in the backyard virtually every day for a half-hour has helped me find the secret ingredient to where I am now in the mid 90's consistently with an occasional 97 mph. Still a long way to go to get to 100 but I can now make a swing change and get instant results. GREAT! What I have found works remarkably well is loose wrists, full shoulder turn, and moving my lower body as quickly as I can on the downswing and just letting the club be pulled by the lower body. It is almost as if you aren't swinging with your arms. Now I know I have been doing this wrong for 20 years. A couple of 18 hole rounds confirms the changes as I am hitting the ball a good 240 yrds now with a little draw. Hope springs eternal. If you are serious about wanting to improve, this is a terrific device but don't give up on it. Any change takes time. Even the great Tiger Woods took a year before his swing changes took hold so we hackers have a bigger challenge. Watch some U-tube videos of Hogan, Johnny Miller and others and see what works for you. It will take time but this little device will help you improve.

The sad reality of my swing. This is somewhat depressing as I imagined my swing to be faster. Looking at film, I seem faster, but electronic devices either work or don't. I do not think the readings are wrong. However, as a total beginner, I really had no clue and now I at least have a basis from which to work. I have been playing around with different swings, now on my 203rd one (I have the ability to copy swings), and by tweaking things I actually have picked up a good 5 mph and that is good. The ball snaps into the net at a decent velocity and I do it with a bit more ease, although not at the point where people describe where they just let their arms swing free and all that. I use my arms fully. I think in actuality they just use more of their body, and do so more in synch. I expect as I loosen up, become more confident in hitting the ball, work on my not yet flowing follow-through that maybe there is another 5 mph in me. That would be acceptable and something that would preserve some accuracy as it is not the wild swing I reserve for when Titanaboa comes out of the swamp. So, after a few days I have a realistic idea of my swing speed, have gained a good 5 mph and have some hope for more. Clearly this was an essential tool for me to learn golf since I have not taken lessons. I think it is money well-spent, but I had to take off a star because the button seems semi-stuck and jammed in. It works, but I have to press pretty hard. I won't send it back because it actually works, or that explains my swing speed readouts... Made in the USA, although the button installing person should be beaten.

I've been using this for about 3 weeks now and love it. I started trying to recover some swing speed about a month ago and this really helps me know how much progress I'm making. Although I specifically got it for driving distance I have found it useful when hitting all my clubs. Very interesting mapping all of my club speeds and working on turn and technique with instant feedback on speed. I also use it in my garage just swing training for speed. As some have mentioned that the instructions say that speed measured will be slower without a ball. This seems very true but I think it's because some of the radar is reflecting off the ball as pick the club head approaching. That is when it's most accurate. I tested my swing speed using the indoor golf store thing and an outdoor Trackman at a demo days. Same speed as what I get with this guy so I'm pretty sure it's within 1mph although didn't check them side by side. It's just fun to use and tinker with power and mechanics to see what effects things have. I even snapchat pic to the kid of personal bests when I get a good one. Also works for baseball bat speed (part of the training) but not as much fun as smashing golf balls. I've probably sold 4 or 5 of these to people at the range and golf course ranges. A must have for hobby golfers and range rats alike.

I am very happy with this product. It reached me (overseas) very quickly and at a reasonable price. I am a good golfer, but as I get close to 70yrs of age, appreciate every help I can get. I have found the readings accurate and very repeatable. Before buying it, I had been worried about the angle of placement of the SSR affecting the readings. I am not sure how exactly they have achieved it, but I have found that the exact angle seems unimportant. Just follow their instructions and all will be well. When it arrived, I found the button did not seem to move. I contacted their Support and had an almost immediate and very helpful reply. They have deliberately made the button very firm as early units had a habit of being accidentally activated while people carried or stored them. Now I know, this is not a problem and I am happy with the firmness. I was just used to other style products that have sensitive buttons. The way it works is also good. Simple interface and you do not need to touch it while in use. The flashing display for a repeated reading is nice. I have no need of it, but perhaps a future enhancement to keeps stats (averages etc) could be of interest to some. But then that would make it more complicated and the simplicity and ease of use are a big positive with this device. Well done SSR! Regards, Dave

The product worked perfect right out of the box, it was so simple to use a monkey could use it. After using it some last summer (2021), I hurt my back from playing golf too much--talk about bad timing. A year later I tried to use the unit again after my back had completely healed, and it seemed to not be working correctly for whatever reason (I admit it was likely my fault). I called the company directly and talked to Mike and within minutes he resolved the issue and sent me a brand new device. This is undoubtedly the best, most efficient customer service I've ever experienced. I personally don't believe the few reviews saying the customer service is poor, it was the exact opposite experience for me, they stand by their product. DO NOT HESITATE TO PURCHASE THIS RADAR. It works very well, and if a problem arises, Sports Sensors Inc. will take care of it. I'm still dumbfounded that they replaced the product with a brand new device months after their warranty expired--unheard of customer service in this day and age.

The readings obtained from this unit are highly inaccurate and inconsistent, across a variety of setup locations, elevations, etc. You name it, and I tried it. Nothing stabilizes the readings. In one indoor session, hitting a 5 iron off of a plush mat into a net with the best repeated swing I could achieve, the unit recorded swing speeds distributed more or less evenly from 64 to 97 MPH. I'm upwards of 70 years old. My swing speed with a five iron is reliably in the 78-83 MPH range. While I am absolutely certain the swing speeds of 64 MPH did not happen, I will acknowledge that they are at least physically possible. For me, swing speeds with a 5 iron in the 95+ MPH range, and there were a bunch of them reported, are not. Would that they were. My biggest mistake was that I spent so much time fooling with different placement, etc. trying to get it to read reliably or at least find a placement where the readings were consistent, that I got outside of the window for returns. So, I still have it set up by the net. Occasionally I turn it on. Hope springs eternal.

Seems to be - ok - with swing sticks as the numbers generally fall in line with one another. However, when I tried to measure actual swing speed when teeing up drivers I got wildly inconsistent information. Numbers anywhere from 100mph up to 145mph (and while I'd love it if it were true, there is no way I swing at 145mph). I'd find it easy to ignore outliers, but there was some frequency where relatively believable but probably a stretch numbers would pop up as well. To the point where it's just difficult to trust the results you're getting. If you're looking for a good swing speed monitor when actually hitting balls, I'd pass on this. But if you're just looking for a swing stick monitor, it's not too bad.

Like the ease of use, works as advertised and its pretty much exactly what trackman says my swing speeds are. I use it to track my "Superspeed Golf" progress.

Works exactly as advertised. Within 3 or 4 mph of my mates £15,000 launch monitor (probably because it picks up the toe of the club). Perfectly adequate for measuring your progress with raw club head speed. Recommended.
