Gaiam Premium Yoga Mat, 6mm Thick Print Mat

I've been on a mission these last few months to find the perfect yoga mat for me, and this Gaiam is the one I keep coming back to. It's not the most expensive mat out there, but it's not exactly cheap, either. It has a really nice thickness to it that provides a good amount of cushioning, but I don't sink in or feel my feet slipping during poses. It's sticky, but not too sticky. Most importantly, it doesn't move around on carpet, which is important since the only space I have to practice in my small condo is carpeted. (I tried out a few mats that made me feel like I was trying to balance on a banana peel because they constantly moved on the carpet, so that is something that was very important to me!) It doesn't hurt that this mat is nice to look at. I love all of the colors and find them soothing to look at as I practice. I've only been using the mat for about a month, so I can't speak to durability yet. But I have used it 3 times per week since it arrived and it still looks brand new, so fingers crossed! Overall, I would definitely recommend this mat. In fact, I like it so much I'm tempted to get another one in a different color. Because I like having options to suit my mood. ;-)

I do all levels and advanced vinyasa yoga. This mat is thick enough that I don’t feel the wooden floors of the studio digging into me, but also thin enough that I don’t have to worry too much about it potentially affecting my balance. I have lupus and have issues with my joints, so I wanted something with a little bit of cushion. I couldn’t find anything reasonable, both size/thickness wise and budget wise. I eventually came across this mat and decided to give it a try. I’ve found that it’s done a lot to help make me feel comfortable and to be confident in my posture and footing. The design is very nice, and even after over a year of regular use, the design is still very visible. I haven’t had any of the mat itself flake or run away and it’s still in one piece. It doesn’t show signs of wear. It’s easy to roll up and carry. It's great about not stretching while you’re using it for yoga (I’ve had mats in the past where my downward dog would become weird looking push-ups). It’s not going to start slipping across the floor. I don’t find my feet slipping, either, but my hands sometimes do (that might be more user error than the mat as I tend to sweat a lot from my hands). One downside would be that, because it’s a bit of a thicker mat, if it’s rolled up for too long or left in a hot car, the edge of the mat where you started the roll might curl upwards. I usually place a block or my phone at the edge and it holds it down without a problem and tends to flatten by the end of class.

I have really been enjoying this mat as part of my at home exercises. I use it for stretching and floor work like abs and glutes. It is very sturdy and provides a nice amount of padding. My knees and joints do not hurt while I am using it. The design is beautiful and the colors look exactly like they did online. It has a slightly sticky feel that helps me keep my grip during different poses. I also like how lightweight it is. It is very easy to roll up and move around the house or take with me to a class. This is a quality product for a very good price.

As far a budget yoga mats go, this one is alright. I have used it only once. It took WAY too long for it to get here and shipping kept saying it was coming, so I waited around all day for it, only for it to change to "expected tomorrow" at around 10:00pm, which is weird, since the same thing happened to the other yoga mat I purchased that was through a different company (really cheaply made that one, so I had to send it back). When I finally got it after shipping lying to me for a few days (and it arriving days after it was initially supposed to) I was met with what I expected, which was an off brand yoga mat that is trying to be hip to appeal to a young adult audience. I do wish the packaging around the mat was recyclable. There was no recycle logo on it, so I assume it was not since it seemed to be made out of a weird plastic. The mat itself is a decent thickness for a thinner mat, but it is better than the cookie dough one that I sent back from that other brand. The smell was kind of strong so you do have to have someplace to air it out. It took about two days hanging in my shower with the window open before it is at least tolerable. Still has a light intertube/new inflable kiddie pool smell to it, but I'm hoping it goes away over time. I have tried it out once and it feels okay but I have carpet, so with it being a thinner mat, it did keep bunching up and sliding around while I was using it which is not so great. If you have hard floors or tile, you can probably get something to stick it down to the ground. My favorite thing about it is that it is light, thin, and (contrary to what the packaging claims) it is pretty portable. It is a more narrow mat, so it is ideal for smaller people or those who don't need a lot of width to work with. Not super long either. It is not a smooth surface, so there is some grip there which I like. Less likely to slip on sweat. I like the design too. I hope the design part does not wear off as I clean it over time, however. Fingers crossed. Don't expect something as high quality as a $70 to $100 mat but this is not bad for newbies or those on a budget.

beautiful and perfect for a normal yoga routine

I love my new Gaiam yoga mat! I recently joined a new studio and the focus is on hot yoga. I love it, but my old mat wasn't grippy enough or thick enough for my knees at this point in life, and I didn't want to have to carry my extra mat that I use at home. This mat is good quality, the perfect length and width for my 5' 5" body, and it's easy to roll up and carry to class. The cushioning is perfect; it's enough to protect my knees on a hard surface, without sacrificing grip or making it harder to carry. I use my own carry strap so I didn't need to worry about a mat that came with one. I'd give 4.5 stars if I could, only because it gets a tiny bit slippery on my hands at the sweatiest part of the workout, but I think most yoga mats will do that. Would buy it again in another color!

I am addicted to the ocean so I did love ocean design I chose to order. My ocd noticed the design stops about half an inch before the end of the mat but it doesn’t really effect the overall design. The mat itself is perfect size. (I’m 5’5) I enjoy that it’s thick but not slippery because of the texture because when I do yoga on hard surfaces my back and knees hurt. Even though quarantine has me only doing yoga on my carpet at home I’m sure I’ll appreciate this feature in the future when I go back to classes and outdoor yoga. One weird thing that I’m sure is normal with a lot of packaged mats (idk) - it has a weird smell that has finally started subsiding about two weeks after I opened it. I cleaned it with Lysol wipes and sprayed my favorite perfume on it too haha. The only teeny tiny downside I noticed is that the topside has far more grip than the bottom side so during certain transitions and movements the mat scoots, folds, or flaps easily. Overall I’m so happy with this new mat! I definitely do recommend it for an affordable but good quality and nice looking investment.
