Sailing Alone Around the World: The Illustrated Edition

This is a beautifully illustrated book of Joshua Slocum's epic solo journey around the world, however, the notes by Thomas Philbrick in the Penguin Classics version should have been included. They make the story and its characters much more accessible for the modern reader. One of my favorite historical travel books...along with "Voyage of the Paper Canoe" by Nathaniel Bishop.

I'm not even a sailor and I found this very interesting. I love the maps etc., that makes it more than just a story...it's a part of history

Great book, good photos. A great gift! It's a large book, don't plan to travel with it - unless you like lifting weights.

Great Christmas gift.

I kept reading that Slocum 's book was the best ever written about a solo circumnavigation of the world so I had to check it out. I was surprised at how upbeat and enticing it was. This guy had a very good time!

A excellent book and a true adventure, well worth reading. I first read this book when Iwas was at school.

The book I received was printed by Amazon and it's not good quality at all. The appearance is really cheap and the text isn't formatted well at all. my advice would be to try and get hold of an earlier publication if you're giving it as a gift.

A wonderful piece of sailing history beautifully and lavishly produced and illustrated.

Was bought as a present and the reaction has been extremely positive and even when finished being read will be a great 'coffee table' book.
