Lonely Planet's Beautiful World 1

This book as its title says it is about a beautiful world which is indeed after seeing this photographs the front cover comes with a sleeve which can be removed and the pictures on it look kind of blurry which I believe is the intended effect, but the book by itself is gorgeous has awesome pictures and has been a conversation starter at home and with friends, a really awesome book.

This is truly the most beautiful coffee-table book I have ever seen. I was so entranced by the photography that I literally sat down and went through it page by page from cover to cover. (Usually I skim a photo book like this.)

This is a big ol' picture book (14" x 10.5") with spectacular photographs. The only words to be found are in the introductory page and the teeny-tiny identification of each photograph at the bottom or top of the pages. Now, whoever assembled this array of photographs had as the lofty goal to create a "context" for the photographs by arranging the images "in chapters that reflect an aspect of life. As you turn the pages [they] hope that pondering the relationship between each image and the life stage with which it's been connected will add another dimension to your experience." Oh, help! Dense me couldn't quite figure it all out and ended up with a dimensionless experience. But, hey! The photographs are beautiful. I like to just open the book at random and ooh and ah over what I'm seeing. It's just that, for example, in the chapter "Space" I fail to see the interconnection of Lighthouse Reef in Belize, Milford Sound in New Zealand, Hammerhead sharks in Ecuador, Migrating buffalo in Botswana, Bracken Cave in Texas and Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong. Not that I'm complaining. The photos are lovely. Here's another example of how I fail to understand the groupings or chapters of photos. Why are photos of a sardine run in South Africa and Humpback whales in Alaska in the chapter "Nourish", the Great White shark of Mexico in "Untamed", Green turtles of Ecuador in "Community", another South African sardine run in "Celebration", Hammerhead sharks of Ecuador in "Space" and the Australian whale shark in "Monumental"? Stupid me would have all those photographs in the same section. So I'm a bit dense, very literal-minded, lacking in imagination and can't understand the choices of photographs for each chapter. That doesn't stop me from loving the photographs. It's a lovely coffee table book.

This book is very large and filled to the brim with spectacular photographs of natural wonders. It is enthralling and great on a coffee table. Whether you're a photographer, a naturalist, an explorer- or just someone like myself who needs an escape- this book has it all.

Awesome book with large impressive photos. Highly recommend if you want beauty without text.

Great coffee table book with stunningly beautiful pictures of exotic locations from around the world. I saw this in an AirBnB property I was staying at in Denver and decided to get one for my home.

1/2 of the pictures are good. Some pictures are of strange size / aspect ratios.

This is an awesome beautiful book not merely borrow from the library but to own it personally! The images are tremendous and beautiful! It's a fantastic coffee table book to savor again and again.

In diesem Buch spricht fast jedes Foto, es findet eine richtiggehende Kommunikation zwischen mir als Betrachter und der jeweiligen Szenerie statt. Das ist fast schon mystisch. Ich spüre daran, mit wie viel Herz die Fotos und im Großen dieses Buch geschaffen wurden. Manchmal muss ich mich zwingen innezuhalten und nicht gleich weiterzublättern, wie viele von uns ja heutzutage mit einigen Print- und Onlinemedien umzugehen gewohnt sind. Wenn ich mich dann auf die Bilder in diesem Buch hier wirklich einlasse, dann berühren sie mich tief. Und das ist nicht nur bei einigen wenigen so, sondern bei der absolut überwiegenden Mehrheit, bei über 90%. Viele davon rühren mich zu Tränen, nicht nur ein bisschen, sondern richtig taschentuchweise. Das ist so eine Schönheit, dass ich es als spirituelle Erfahrung empfinde, in diesem Buch zu stöbern. Ich kann gar nicht sagen, dass es dabei nur darum geht, die Erde bewahren zu wollen, es geht auch darum, erst einmal das Geschenk zu erkennen, hier leben zu dürfen. Also es nicht nur zu wissen, sondern es zu spüren. Und dann, obwohl die Fotos zu Themen sortiert sind, könnte die Überraschung nach dem Umblättern manchmal nicht größer sein. Diese ganzen Kontraste in der Gemeinsamkeit sind eine besondere Erfahrung für sich. Man schaut z.B. erst auf Hirsche im Herbstnebel und auf der nächsten Seite auf eine Szene mit Booten in Vietnam, dann auf eine Lehmsiedlung in Mali und direkt daneben auf die strenge Geometrie eines Wohngebiets in Arizona. Oberthema in diesem Fall: "Community". Das Buch enthält um die 190 Fotos. Selbst wenn man jedes nur 10 Sekunden auf sich wirken lässt, ist man schon über 30 Minuten beschäftigt. Und dabei taugen viele Fotos für viel mehr als 10 Sekunden. 30 Euro sind insofern gar nicht so sehr teuer für das, was man bekommt. Die Druckqualität könnte meines Erachtens noch besser sein, gerade bei einseitigen Fotos ist die Auflösung in feinen Details mitunter doch merklich vom Punktmuster getrübt, aber vielleicht muss man auch sagen, dass absolutes Hochglanzpapier ein Geschmäckle in Bezug auf Umweltschutz hätte. Auch die Farbbrillianz ist gut, aber nicht überragend. Dass das Buch in China gedruckt wurde, zeigt, in welcher Zeit wir leben, dafür sind auch einige atemberaubende Bilder der chinesischen Natur dabei. Das Gefühl der Wertigkeit ist für ein Buch wirklich großartig, es ist sehr massiv und mit viel Sinn für Ästhetik gemacht. Es erinnert an Bücher aus der "guten alten Zeit", mit guter Bindung und einem Bändel als Lesezeichen. Dieses Werk wird jetzt in meinem Wohnzimmer auf dem Tisch bleiben, auf dass es jeden Gast inspiriert, der es in die Hand nimmt. Und auch als Geschenk ist es für Menschen, deren Herz für die Natur und diese Erde schlägt, ein Joker, den ich bestimmt noch mehr als einmal ziehen werde. Am Ende bleiben bei mir Stille und Ehrfurcht.

世界って広い、自然ってすごい。そう思わせてくれる素晴らしい本です。 掲載された写真すべてに臨場感や躍動感があり、その場の空気や音まで聞こえるような気がしました。 大きくて重い本ですが、このサイズだからなおさら圧倒されます。印刷も美しいです。 普通に生きていたら見るどころか知ることもなかった景色が、ページをめくるたびに広がって高揚しました。 この内容・満足感でこの価格は非常に安いと思います。 一生大事にしたい、手放したくない本です。

Ce livre, d'un grand format, contient des photos sublimes. La qualité est présente, excepté quelques pages qui étaient collées entre elles sur un des angles et qu'il a fallu décoller délicatement pour ne pas abimer les feuilles. De plus, son tarif promotionnel était intéressant sur Amazon par rapport à d'autres marchand. Livraison rapide, comme toujours chez Amazon. Un petit bémol cependant, carton non adapté, comme souvent. Du coup le livre se baladait dans le carton, sans aucune protection (bulle ou mousse ou éventuellement une protection aux angles du livre) et il aurait pu arriver abîmé, ce qui aurait été fort dommage. Juste un petit coin enfoncé. Si vous aimez les belles photos, achetez ce livre et vous ne serez pas déçu.

This book is absolutely stunning . I chose it for the photos of Iceland after a recent trip. It was a Christmas present and it was a great success. After looking at more expensive books I am so pleased with quality for a very good price.
