Eleven years and going strong.
I bought this unit eleven years ago and put it in a cheap, freight-store greenhouse, which finally got so dilapidated that we had to tear it down this spring. The outdoor sensor went through all those years of searing summers and blisteringly cold winters, and had batteries die and leak in it. I salvaged it from the wreckage, put new batteries in it, and now it works just as well as when it was new! If you’re looking for a rugged and reliable outdoor remote thermometer, you can’t go wrong with this one.

Lasted for Years
I bought this for our travel trailer in 2019 and used it for our old trailer and our new one. Worked perfectly the entire time; the batteries lasted a very long time. Today, May 2026, I got no reading from the outside, and upon closer inspection I see the connection for one battery is finally starting to rust. I live on the coast so the fact it lasted this many years riding outside our trailer is pretty fantastic. I cleaned it up a bit and it will likely last until we get home, but it is time for a new one, so I just ordered a new one exactly the same. So yes, I highly recommend this.

Functional & reliable, but QC issues on new units.
Giving this 4 stars because I had one on my camper for a couple of years. I had the outside unit zip tied under the frame, and honestly I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did especially when towing through rain and dirty roads it would get covered in water & dirt and then still work when we got to the campsite, so that speaks to its resilience. Well the outdoor unit did finally die, it was all corroded when I opened it up. I ordered the same unit as a replacement and the replacement was non-functional from the start. Would not connect to the outdoor unit, indoor unit always said it was at low battery (despite trying several fresh batteries), and the LCD display had some elements that were not illuminating. I sent that one back for a full refund and purchased a more comprehensive unit that includes humidity. So, when it works, it works great, but if you get a dud from the start just send it back.

This gadget has been a wonderful tool in our stable to monitor heated horse waterers..
Our stable uses heated horse waterers which have a double bowl on top of a metal base which contains a heater. The heaters are difficult to adjust to any particular temperature and it was crucial that I could determine how close to freezing the temperature in the closed base unit was at various air temperature in the barn. Freezeup inside the heater base could break the essential water lines and valves and become a huge problem. I decided to experiment with the Acurite indoor/outdoor thermometers . I set the "outdoor" wireless transmitting unit inside the base box of the waterer to monitor the heater performance and hung the "indoor" thermometer/receiving unit on the wall a few feet outside the waterer. I have double-checked with mercury thermometers and found that Acurite units gave me accurate readings inside the waterer base. All last winter when air temps dropped below zero I could quickly determine the temperature within the base unit and adjust the heaters as needed. It was an unusual use but was fabulous and prevented many problems. Despite what it says in the instructions, the "inside" thermometer/receiver works great well below 32 degrees. I see no reason they wouldn't do great in the simpler situation of giving you readings in your home and at some target point outside. I did have a problem of resetting them when I changed batteries after a year. One unit started interfering with the other so I threw it out and replaced it. They are inexpensive enough that replacement was not a concern. They are out there tonight monitoring the waterers in our barn and eliminating many worries.. Such a cheap way to prevent problems and get a good night's sleep.

Best remote thermometer you'll ever buy!
I bought one of these units about 13 years ago at a 'Big Box' store...around $11 (blister packed). I figured it wouldn't make it a year, but wanted one on my RV for convenience. So, I took some molding tape (like for vehicle accent trim) and affixed the outdoor sensor under the RV (out of the rain and direct sunlight), and put the readout in the kitchen. Every year, I'd replace both battery sets (in sensor and head)...and it always worked. Tested against several other thermometers I have, it was always DEAD-ACCURATE...I've had it up in Canada in -20C temps, and down in southern Texas in +110F temps...always accurate. Then...as luck would have it, armadillos happen...like running over a bowling ball, and MAN, do they do damage! Needless to say, Armadillos are HIGHLY HOSTILE to sensitive electronics and high speed impacts mean no more electronics...so, I had to replace it. I have NEVER found another temperature device that worked so well, and was worried that AcuRite didn't make this model anymore...but Amazon proved me wrong! So, without delay, I bought it again...and this one seems to be just as good as the first. Batteries last about 1-year between changes. Accuracy is awesome. The ONLY downside to this model, is that it doesn't have a backlight...so flashlight, cellphone, lighting of some kind is required to read the display in the dark (but at least it does have big numerals to make reading it easy!). If I want to know the time, I'll check my watch or my cell phone. If I want a weather report for my area (that is usually inaccurate anyhow) I'll listen to NOAA radio. If I want to see a 'pretty display', I'll stare at my cellphone for a while...but when I want an accurate outdoor temperature without worrying if I can find an old 'stick thermometer', I'll just look at the old AcuRite...and know that's the temperature outside. I HIGHLY recommend this specific AcuRite model...and hope they keep making it! (I also hope I never have to deal with the car-stopping ability of armadillos again)

accurate and reliable
We live in a house that sets up on short blocks and has a crawl space about two feet high. The well pipe pops up in the crawl space about a foot from the insulated wall of the crawl space skirt. We keep an eye on the temperature down there using this remote unit because the temps frequently drop below zero in the winter and we need to check the heat tape on the pipe if the temps in the crawl space go below freezing. The remote transmitter is about half the size of a computer mouse and can be set on a flat surface or hung on a wall or from a pipe using a piece of stiff wire. The batteries lasted over two years and the unit worked for three. I suspect it would still be working if not for a nearby lightening strike this summer that toasted a number of electronic devices we had operating near the house. When we had to replace the set-up, we opted for the exact same unit because of it's simplicity and reliability.

inaccurate now after 2 years
We've used high quality rechargeable batteries since day one. Here in FL it's 82 now but the temp displayed is 90. It's been acting weird the past couple weeks of rising temps. I tried new alkaline batteries but it's the same issue. The outdoor unit is in a neutral place on the north side of our house where heat doesn't collect. The indoor temp is fine, but the outdoor temp must be because FL is the heat hoarder, where the sun must blast so intensely that you just have to ignore what the thermometer says.

durable, accurate
I have one of these that is 7 years old and still working fine which is not true of most things you buy for $15 these days. I just put this and a Govee sensor in my wedgewood stove which has pilot light so it's always warm, and they both agree within a tenth of a degree that it is 131.7 degrees in there, so seemingly it is functional and accurate at high temperatures as well. We usually just leave it outside so that we can see what the weather is like in terms of what clothes to put on. Batteries last forever, I might change them out every . . . 6 months? But it might even be longer than that. And these are rechargeables.

Great little unit
This is a fantastic little unit. I didn’t read the description carefully as it only displays in Fahrenheit. The description was clear. Other than that, it’s awesome.

Seems accurate
It is accurate enough to use in a fridge or freezer
