In it, you'll find all you need to know about: The link between nutrition and health How the body processes food The truth about diets and nutrition regimes The value of nutrients Building healthy eating habits How to use nutrition to curtail ailments and allergies Review: Tons of Information for a Healthier YOU - I am loving this book and all the information in it. It is packed with so much useful stuff. For years I have struggled to lose weight and couldn't figure out why because I exercise daily and I have been a vegetarian for most of my life. This book pretty much gave me a lot of reasons why I could be having problems. Blood tests come back and I'm low on a lot of vital vitamins and minerals but I never thought it meant anything until I read this book. I count my calories every day and never drink calories and now I realize that could be another factor. This book tells you why each vitamin and mineral is important and what it does for your body. It has ailments and what to do to avoid them. Like anxiety for example, it says to avoid caffeine and alcohol as those two things make anxiety worse. It also includes many other ailments like cancer, dandruff, depression, bruises, cold sores, colds, headaches, hypertension, and more. It says exactly what vitamins and minerals to avoid and what diets you should consider to lower your chances of certain diseases. There is also so much information on many different diets out there too as well as foods you should eat and avoid. The book is very easy to read, isn't boring at all, and it's very easy to understand. This is definitely a book I'm enjoying and I am so glad I came across it. I've learned a lot about my own health and so many things I've been doing wrong. I highly recommend it! *I received this book free in exchange for an honest review* Review: "Let Food Be Thy Medicine, and Let Medicine Be Thy Food"-Hippocrates - I have always loved that quote by Hippocrates and this book is the perfect guide to explaining how to let food be your medicine! I consider myself to be pretty health conscious, and knowledgeable about the importance of the right foods for your health. I am constantly surprised by friends and family that honestly do not understand how much damage they are doing to their bodies by eating the wrong foods. I love how the book explains how different foods work within the body! It explains things like digestion, absorption, and metabolism in a way that is easy to understand for everyone! Vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbs, fats and the roles they play and how to incorporate all these thing in the best way possible are lined out! Even though it is very thorough, it is not monotonous, nor does it go into too much detail that will lose the reader attention. I have found many similar books that go into far too much detail and the average person looking for quick answers isn't likely to continue reading. When a book is straight, to the point, and easy to understand, I feel it serves a better purpose for those just learning to take control of their health! It is also a great reference book for those who are already health knowledgeable and conscious! The next time I am having a conversation with someone who doesn't really understand the importance of the right foods in managing their health, I know just what book to recommend! Very well written
The book Nutrition Facts is very informative. It is divided into five chapters and they are color coded for easy reference. It starts with nutrition and health. In this chapter the author talks about what is nutrition, historical facts, how nutrition relates to growth, reproduction, health and metabolism. What healthy means, food as medicine and medicines with food and food versus medicine. Every topic is very well covered with lots of information. The second chapter, the body, covers different body functions and body parts in relation to nutrition. In next chapter author talks about nutrients, explaining every nutrient and its role, sources of these nutrients. The chapter on eating explains foods, drinks and diets. Different kinds of foods and comparison between them and their health benefits. Different diets, how they work, what is the effect of each diet. The last chapter is about ailments and allergies. This chapter explains how different foods can effect a person. Similarly, a food can start an allergic reaction in a person. How to read nutritional labels on products is also mentioned and there are conversion tables as well. All in all, every topic is very well explained and written in this book. I find this book very helpful and informative. I was given the opportunity to try this book for free for my unbiased opinion.

Very readable and fairly comprehensive. (Karen: include potassium in your next edition)
I read this cover to cover. Not sure why I found it so interesting and readable but it was. Nutritional deficiencies or toxicities are the most common diseases in America yet almost never diagnosed. (The way our society and medical system have evolved, eating well and knowing how to eat well is your job and it's nobody's job to help you. As a Family Practice doctor I am sad about that and don't know exactly what to do about it. We don't get paid to talk to or advise our patients in the current system. We are supposed to refer you to a dietician or nutritionist when we diagnose a problem but then insurance usually won't pay for the consultation.) This book is not the most complete work available but is probably ideal for those who read at high school or college level and don't already have significant nutritional knowledge. That probably includes most doctors. This book is a good launch point: If you find an area of interest to you, consider Wkipedia (or examine.com for supplements) to delve deeper. USDA.com has an immense database on food and nutrition but it's complicated and the guidelines are often bent to meet political expectations (Selling grain, making money for the processed food complains and creating illness for the medical and pharmaceutical industries to profit from all seem to be influences.) One final point: Strangely, potassium is not included in this book in the nutrient section. I've read somewhere that 98% of Americans don't get enough potassium. would seem to be important to put potassium in the next edition

Just okay
I think this book is okay, I don't love it. I read a lot of wellness and nutrition books as I am really into fitness and health. I recently received a copy of this book free so I figured why not and decided to read it. This book only has five chapters and while it does contain a lot of information - I think a person can become better informed from other books or researching online. All of the information in this book seems to be cited from the US Government's standpoint on health and nutrition and while they are good at providing some basic information, I wouldn't take their opinion on all aspects of nutrition to be accurate or even viable in this day and age. If you know absolutely nothing about nutrition -- we are talking nothing, you have no idea what a calorie is or where to find a nutrition label than this book would be an okay place to start. If you are into health and you know there is a lot more to nutrition than meets the eye - skip this read, as I think you would be better off just using google or another book for more in depth info. I received this book complimentary in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

I have a goal to be healthier but struggle in the kitchen when it comes to eating better. This book though
First of all, let me say that I am not a health nut, by any stretch of the imagination. I have a goal to be healthier but struggle in the kitchen when it comes to eating better. This book though, oh man, it brings out the science nerd in me. I really do love to learn about the pros, cons, and science benefits of eating better. Yea you can learn all about this and that and cutting carbs but I really want to know how my body processes things and this book gets on a very technical level of doing that. The first thing I did was flip to the back to look at the citations. I wanted to check to see what type of references Karen was using. She is using good quality sources, in my opinion, for her fact basing. I also did a lot of research on Karen herself, just to get to know her background. She has suffered from Celiac's for many many years and has been able to live a gluten and dairy free lifestyle. While I received this book for free, the review is my own. The only downside with this book is the print quality, it's horrible. The color printing is faded, and I will say to the publishers: GET A BETTER PRINTER.

Great Resource for Healthier Eating.
This book of 199 pages is packed with a ton of information on everything and anything you may want to know about nutrition including one whole chapter on Ailments & Allergies, what food to avoid and what to take! I really appreciated this sections as it had information on issues that my family was experiencing, Autism, Acid Reflux, Fibromyalgia to name a few and while it may not be "in depth" it did get me started thinking on how we could be eating better foods to help these issues. It has helpful explanations on the basics like "What are Macronutrients and Micronutrients and what exactly is considered "whole foods". How to read a Nutrition Label. Another cool thing is you will find helpful hints, additional info and Myth/Fact boxes located on the side of the page, like a breakdown of RDA for Sodium (SEE PICTURES). There is a lot of information available in this book and it would be a great resource for any family. I would be a nice gift for anyone trying to eat healthier or a young couple with kids. I received this book free for my unbiased and honest review, the experiences and opinions are my own.

Perfect for anyone on a normal American Diet!
Nutrition Facts: The Truth About Food This is a great book especially if you want more nutrition educations. The book does explain why you need certain things in your diet and how your body uses them which can be very helpful. I am a vegetarian converting to vegan. With that said I do disagree with a few things in the book when it puts long and short term effects of eating a plant based diet. Also the GMO part, I am not totally against GMO because it helps create more food and does help with feeding people all over the world that would not be possible without it but I don't think it should be made that you should eat it. It you are on a normal American diet this book is awesome, if not look for a book more toward your way of eating. *Promotional or discounted Item for my honest unbiased review per the FTC.

Ok useful except for iodine info
It is fairly easy to read and has a lot of useful information BUT The British Thyroid org have found iodine to be detrimental in large quantities and not proven in small quantities basically you should not try and boost you intake beyond what is in your food....
