Ive tried a few different brands of biltong and made my own. I have to say that this wasn't my favorite. Believe me, i wanted to like it. The taste was sour and most of the bag was pulverized shreds. :( I did find that letting a bit airdry in a bowl made it a little more palatable, but honestly it'sjust sitting in my fridge still, where normally I'd have eaten the whole bag in a day or so. I will say that there was a decent amount for the price. The texture and cut were good on the whole pieces. Also, some of the bites left a weird coating and nasty taste on my tongue, like baking soda or something, but definitely an off taste. I had my own beef jerky store for several years, so I'm a connoisseur, but no snob. -----update 8/13/2019------- I contacted customer service via the email on the bag and got a response. They sent me a new bag and here is the email I sent them back. Very happy now. ....The biltong showed up last Thursday! I'm sorry i kept forgetting to email you. It is delicious. It's night and day difference between the bag I got through Amazon originally. This bag was pristine and the taste is spot on. Every piece is a perfect slice, no shreds or fluff. Dark, rich brown color, not hay colored like the old bag. I really think that the other bag got very hot or something and out the taste off. Thank you so much. Now I know that if I am in the mood for biltong, Ayoba-yo is a good choice. Thanks for the customer service as well.....

I have been lucky to visit South Africa a few times in my life. What is not lucky is coming home to the United States and craving biltong. Biltong is a magical, sugar-free, barely processed jerky and once you try it, you will never want to eat American beef jerky again. Biltong made in South Africa cannot be imported to the States, which is probably the saddest thing ever. I have searched for the perfect recreation of what I have eaten while road tripping through the Karoo, and I haven't found anything that can match it. Until I got this Ayoba-Yo Biltong delivered to my door yesterday. My search is over. Ayoba-Yo is a match to the biltong in my memories. The meat is sliced thin and perfect for snacking. It is fresh, doesn't contain any gross preservatives, and the flavors are the perfect traditional blend. Try this biltong and make the switch, you won't be disappointed!

It taste ok but not like the original

I am South African and I take droëwors and biltong seriously. Ayoba is not terrible but it is not great. The meat quality is good but it is overly spiced!

I have recently adopted a low carb, high protein diet combined with weight training, so I'm always looking for new sources of protein. I use protein powder as little as possible, and eat more from natural sources. I have a brand of beef jerky I really like, but traditional beef jerkies have a lot of sugar (10g protein to 6g of sugar). Biltong, however, has more protein per oz (16g) and 0g of carbs or sugar. Simple ingredients, and nothing funky. So a big win on the nutrition front. That is great, but what won me over was the flavor. It has a nice hearty flavor, and has a little wetness to it that makes the texture nice to chew. I have tried another brand of biltong, but I found it too dry for my taste (kinda of like chewing on plastic). So another win on flavor and texture. Pricing is okay. Good beef jerky is not cheap, so you get what you pay for. I would like to buy in bulk, so bigger packages with better discounts would be a good offer I would jump on immediately.

I was highly excited to try Ayoba Traditional Grass Fed Beef Biltong. Genuine biltong should be air-dried, tender, and lean. Sadly, this product missed the mark completely due to its texture and mouthfeel. The biggest issue was the heavy, waxy layer of grease left in my mouth after eating. It was incredibly unpleasant and required a hot drink to wash away. Traditional biltong can have fat, but this fat did not melt or chew well. It felt like eating cold lard. Instead of a clean, savory bite, each piece felt weighed down by oil. The spices and flavor notes were decent. However, the oily residue ruined the entire experience. If you prefer dry, clean meat snacks, you may want to skip this one.

I've been gluten free for quite some time and have really missed eating beef jerky. If you take a look at most labels, there is always soy sauce which is a source of wheat, therefore gluten. I've recently switched to a ketogenic way of eating and now I'm also on the lookout for products that do not contain added sugars. To my surprise, this Ayoba-Yo Biltong ticked both of those boxes! I was kind of nervous to try it at first because it looked different than what I'm used to and it's not smoked nor does it contain smoke flavoring. Anyway, I gave it a try and I loved it right away. It's tender, but chewy at the same time, has a nice flavor, and the serving size because of the way it's sliced, seems like you get a lot. I really like it and highly recommend you try it especially if you are looking for a snack that fits a specific dietary restriction.
