Well Deserved Title for a Book
I edited Rick Abbott’s book From Beyond the Edge. I did it as a favor after reading a draft copy and realizing that it was a fantastic read. Rick is a natural born writer and story teller. His writing style has the reader feeling they are sitting together in his living room having a cold one. He relates his many adventures, trials and tribulations with an authenticity and openness rarely seen in an autobiography. Not only that, his many adventures absolutely deserve to be called “from beyond the edge”. If you want a first hand account of someone truly living their life to it’s fullest and rolling with the punches life throws his way, by all means get this book.

Alaskan Adventure on the high seas and so much more
Come along with Rick Abbott as he takes you out on the Bering Sea during the heyday of Alaskan fishing. Great rewards often come with great risks and only the brave and the insane were usually willing to risk their lives in a serious quest for their fortunes. Usually after a few Months at sea it would become hard to distinguish the brave from the insane. Beyond the adventures on the high seas and on land in and out of Alaska Rick shares a personnel journey of awakening that will truly inspire you to search out your own Angels and might help in charting your own course to adventure and personnel fulfillment. Part Most Dangerous Catch and part comical adventure and consistently tied together with a deep spiritual quest From Beyond The Edge is an exciting and satisfying read on many levels. My highest recommendation. From Beyond the Edge: Adventures of an Alaskan Crabber

An Adventure Like No Other!
Captain Rick Abbott is a retired commercial crab fisherman, and he worked in one of the most extreme environments in the world: the notorious Bering Sea west of Kodiak, Alaska. Bering Sea crab fishing involves freezing temperatures, turbulent waters, and tremendous crab pots which must be dragged up from the depths and can weigh well over a ton when full. The season is short due to regulations and the nearly always inclement weather, so crab fishermen often spend days at a time in very rough seas working long hours with very little sleep. It's a life like no other, and few are willing to take the risks involved, but for those like Rick, who dare to heed the challenge, it can be a life-changing experience. Rick Abbot shares his adventures on the high seas - but he also shares a second adventure, a spiritual awakening and a personal quest which became another life-changing experience.
